Sharing the Joy!

This year, our school district theme is finding joy within the journey! Students and families are invited to spread joy among our staff! Is there a staff member that has inspired you with their joy? If you would like to give a shoutout to someone, please fill out this form and we will share your message with them!!

School Highlight: 6A - Team ACES

Team ACES is off to a wonderful start! We have spent time team building and learning what great teamwork looks like! We have been busy in our classes, including designing our new team logo, exploring how history affects life today, and enjoying our first science labs! We are excited for a school year filled with lots of learning, new friends, and fun!

Car pick-up/drop-off

Our arrival and dismissal times are the busiest of our school day! Our buses drop and pick up our students in the front of the school. Please help us keep our students and community safe by ensuring we are keeping the front of our school free of vehicles. We ask that you NOT park along Walnut Street to drop off or pickup students.

Families may park along Phoenix or drop-off/pick-up on the North side of the building to pick students up. Thank you!!

PBIS Kick-Off Week

This week, our CJHS staff reviewed our PBIS expectations in all areas of our school. Students learned expectations for arrival/dismissal, hallway/locker, classroom, laptops, locker rooms, bathroom, bus, cafeteria, assemblies, and field trips. Next week, teachers will continue to review, model, and reteach expectations to students. Students have the opportunity to earn Charger Cash for following expectations!

Students will begin to receive consequences after Labor Day for failure to follow these expectations including our dress code.

We invite our families to ask their student(s) what they learned and determine areas to focus on together! Click here for our CJHS PBIS Matrix of expectations.

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will be taking their Fall FastBridge Assessments this coming week!

Plastic only & Deodorant

Students are encouraged to have their own water bottle to refill throughout the day! Please ensure that students only have plastic water bottles to avoid any broken glass.

In addition, families are encouraged to provide an extra stick of deodorant to keep in their student's lockers to use after PE class. Thank you!!

Locks

Reminder that ALL students should have two locks - one for PE locker and the other for hallway locker. There are MANY lockers in the hallway without locks and we want to avoid missing items!

Locks are sold in the office - $14 for the pair. Payment is accepted in the form of cash or check.

CJHS yearbooks are on sale!!

From our Family Coordinator...

Hi Charger Families!!

It has been wonderful to have your children in the halls of Chiddix Junior High these past weeks. Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do to support your child's education. You are the real MVP!! This year, Chiddix will again partner with Midwest Food Bank and Eastview Church to offer some supplemental snacks over the weekend to qualifying students. BUT this year we are changing the format. Every other Thursday, students who have the need may come and select a few snack items that they will then bring home in their own backpack. If you are interested in having your child participate, please email Kelly at winterk@unit5.org

Kelly's Pro Tips for a great school year:

  • Follow McLean County U5 on Facebook for all the Unit 5 info and updates
  • Don't forget to sign up for free and reduced lunches if you qualify. This will prevent a negative lunch balance.
  • Encourage your child to get a good night's sleep. I am a night owl myself so I get it, it's hard to get back on school schedule, but think of it this way...you know when your cell phone gets all messed up and just doesn't work right and you turn it off for a bit and then turn it back on and magically everything works again. That's what sleep does for the body, ESPECIALLY the body of a growing and changing adolescent.
  • Is your child struggling with school avoidance? Reach out!!! I am here to support you and your family and want to help make your child feel comfortable and safe at school.

Thank you for all you do!!!
