Friendly Reminders & Important Dates
Thursday, April 7; 6:30 -- PTO Meeting
Friday, April 15 -- Book Order Due
As the end of the school year rapidly approaches, please make sure that your child is still reading at least 15 minutes each night. Regardless of where they are at as a reader, it is essential that they continue to practice the skills and strategies they have learned throughout the year.
Literacy
This week, we start Theme 13: Free to Be You and Me. We will work on the reading strategy of retelling. Students will choose the most important ideas from a story and retell them in their own words. This will help them to better understand what they have read. We will also be introduced to adjectives (color and size) and understand how they add details to texts.
Our spelling words are R-Controlled vowels, or "Bossy R," words. Our list is as follows:
- bird
- curl
- fern
- park
- short
- air
- for
- alarm
- earth
- +1 personal word to be decided as a class on Monday morning.
In Writer's Workshop, we will put the finishing touches on our fiction stories. This will include adding more details both in the setting and throughout the story as well as adding a thoughtful ending.
Math
This week, we'll begin our unit on time! Students will first be introduced to the hour and minute hands. We will focus on writing and telling time to the hour and to the half hour. We will also work on estimating and ordering lengths of time as well as how to use a calendar.
