NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION
Chris Anderson, an 8th grade team leader, social studies teacher and technology integration specialist at Algonquin Middle School, received "National Board Certification" for social studies. Chris is the first Averill Park teacher to receive the honor. Way to go Chris! Read more about it here.

SCHOOL SAFETY VIDEO
LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY'S STUDENTS OF THE YEAR
Julia Haworth has been accepted as a candidate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 2019 Students of the Year campaign. During this campaign, participants learn about entrepreneurship, marketing and project management while raising funds for the Society. This is another way that our students are giving back while learning life lessons. Great job Julia!
HS JUNIOR SELECTED FOR ALL-EASTERN
Haley Surprenant was picked to participate in the 2019 NAfME All-Eastern Honors Ensembles in Pittsburgh. Haley will spend four days with some of the best musicians from the east coast and will perform with the Treble Choir. Read more about her here.
SIX SELECTED FOR NYS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Six seniors were selected for the New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence Award, including Emily Jorden, Katherine O'Neill-Knasick, Michael Beskid, Jenna Miller, Abigail Vandenburg and Ryan Baker. The top student out of the group, Michael Beskid, will receive a $1,500 award and the other five students will receive a $500 award as long as they attend a New York state college. Read more here.
JAZZ EMSEMBLE AND CHAMBER ORCHESTRA PERFORM
XTREME TEAM FLIES HIGH AT AMS
Algonquin Middle School hosted the Xtreme Team on Thursday, Dec. 13 as a reward for this year’s magazine drive participants. The Xtreme Team is a high-flying stunt acrobatic team that specializes in trampoline slam dunk shows. Read more here and see videos on Facebook.

West Sand Lake Elementary's Holiday Float Parade
West Sand Lake Elementary held a design contest for the Holiday Float Parade during Media Literacy. The winning designers, and parents, stayed after school twice to make their ideas come to life! Read more here.
SCHOLAR-ATHLETES RECOGNIZED
Seven of our fall varsity sports teams were recognized as Scholar-Athlete teams by the NYSPHSAA, including boys cross country, boys golf, boys soccer, girls cross country, girls soccer, girls tennis and girls volleyball. In total, 115 of our student-athletes earned a GPA of 90 or above. Way to go everyone! Read more about it here.
TUBA CHRISTMAS
Eighth grader Isabelle Relyea and ninth grader Rebecca Ware participated in the 4th Annual Tuba Christmas. After a brief rehearsal, the girls, along with 26 other Capital Region tuba, euphonium and baritone players, performed for the Empire State Plaza tree lighting ceremony. Read more here.
