February- Month of Mindfulness!
For the month of January we focused on spreading kindness to others, earning “kindness nuggets” and filling up their classroom kindness jars. North Ohio will be having a school wide mis-match clothing day on Friday, February 4th to celebrate the end of our Kindness Challenge!
For the month of February, our school wide focus will be on Mindfulness, and students will be participating daily in a mindfulness activity with their class. There are many benefits for students who engage in mindfulness practices, including; strengthening children’s overall self-control, lowering anxiety and stress, improvement in emotion regulation skills, and improving a child’s social skills and communication skills. When we think of mindfulness we often automatically think of breathing exercises. Although breathing exercises are a great way to practice mindfulness, there are other ways to practice mindfulness outside of breathing exercises. For example, we can encourage a child to try noticing how their body feels, or how their feet connect with the floor and their seats to the chairs. Children can also practice being mindful while moving! I am excited for Mindfulness February and helping to provide numerous ideas and techniques using all five our senses to practice Mindfulness!

Accelerated Learning at NOE
We are pleased to let the families of North Ohio know that we have started a new program to support learners at ALL academic levels. This program is called Accelerated Learning and is designed to give students pre-lesson support on upcoming content so that students can continue to master core academic skills.
All students will receive some sort of Accelerated Learning, either through ICAN Math/Ramped Up Read Aloud, High Dosage Tutoring, and/or classroom-based small groups. Accelerated Learning may be provided by Title 1 teachers, Title 1 assistants, classroom teachers, and/or High Dosage Tutors (retired Gaylord Community School teachers).
Students may receive multiple forms of Accelerated Learning and the format may change throughout the year. For example a student may work with a High Dosage Tutor for a few weeks, and then with a Title 1 assistant for another few weeks, or even at the same time! The program is designed to be flexible and to include all students at all academic levels.
We are excited to see how far our students can go with Accelerated Learning!
