Members Are Needed!
The Middlesex Borough Alliance Committee to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse operates under a federal grant, GCADA (Governors Council Against Drug Abuse). It provides the middle and high school students with information and programming through speakers that will try to persuade them from not using any addictive substance like alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.
The current committee, which is comprised of residents committed to its mission have been involved for more than three decades and have no children in the school system. Although we collaborate closely with the schools’ professionals, it is vital that parents of children in the school system be involved in this Federal Grant Program.
The committee members are all volunteers, not appointed, and the meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month throughout the school year (except for September and December). You can be a member for one school year, or the entire time your child(ren) is in the school. The meetings usually last about an hour.
The Alliance supports Elks leadership program, Police Mini-Academy I and II, Sticker Shock, MHS PRIDE Team, and programs with speakers chosen by the school and facilitated by Wellspring Center for Prevention. The Alliance also helps the police department organize National Night Out/Community Outreach Day, which is the first Tuesday in August every year.
We are asking for your assistance in getting the word out to your school organizations/parents that the Alliance needs members and if participation does not increase with more residents/parents, we may lose our funding and all programming which related to addiction abuse will end.
If you would be interested in becoming a member of the Middlesex Borough Alliance Committee to Prevent Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, please contact Cindy Chomen via email at chomen2448@yahoo.com, or visit one of the meetings on the second Wednesday of the month at the High School Library at 7PM.
Sincerely,
MIDDLESEX ALLIANCE COMMITTE
Winter Issue of the Newspaper Club's Middlesex Moments
The latest Middlesex Moments features information on the history of our school, news on our first female wrestler at VEM, details on the naming of Woodland, and much more! Any student who would like to submit an article can share their work with Ms. Wise. In addition, we have room in our club for other students to join, just ask Ms. Wise for a form.
Congratulations to our small Intermediate and Middle Schools Newspaper Staff for pulling together all of this great content!

Nominate Someone for Staff Member of the Month
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We will be recognizing staff members who have gone above and beyond for our students and our school community. Staff members or members of the community are welcome to use the form below to nominate someone you feel is deserving of this honor. A recipient will be randomly chosen and honored each month at our building faculty meeting. Previous nominees will remain in the pool and could be chosen during subsequent months. As an extra recognition, the staff member will receive a small token of appreciation.
Below you will find a link to the survey that will be used to select a staff member for this award. Please fill this in if you would like to have a staff member recognized.
