Half-way through January...
Please note...Monday, January 18th is a school holiday in recognition of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
PTA School Bell Award
Congratulations are in order for our very deserving Nurse Carolyn Roy! She is this year’s Cornerstone PTA School Bell Award Winner!
The School Bell Award recognizes staff that embody the purposes of the PTA and advocate for all children. Numerous nominations were received, and the PTA Executive board had a very hard decision, as all nominees are amazing and benefit our school in so many unique and powerful ways. We are only allowed to send one name on to the district as our nominee, and we are thrilled to declare Nurse Roy as this year’s CSA PTA School Bell Award winner.
Nurse Roy truly advocates for all children and promotes the purposes of the PTA. In what has been an extremely challenging year she has gone above and beyond what is required of her. She is diligent about keeping students and staff safe and healthy, and always shows and abundance of care and concern for our school. Nurse Roy will be recognized at the SBISD Founders’ Day banquet as our school’s nominee for the district’s School Bell Award. The district winner will be announced in February.
Other Cornerstone School Bell finalists were Bill Burger, Caroline Dougher, Kathleen Grant, and Chae Kim. Congratulations and thanks for all you do to support our students and families!

SBISD Vision of a T-2-4 Graduate -- Virtual Community Meetings
Tuesday, Jan. 19, and Thursday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m.
Community meetings are scheduled to share the work of the SBISD Visioning Committee, why it matters to our system and students, and to engage in a digital conversation to gather your critical feedback about what makes students ready for T-2-4 at all levels of school -- elementary, middle and high school.
Register for the Jan. 19 or Jan. 21 online community meetings today!
I've had the privilege of serving as a member of the SBISD Visioning Committee, and I'm very proud of and inspired by the work we have accomplished over the past few months. So, if you're able to attend, I'd definitely recommend it. If you have questions, I''m here to help.
Spring Woods HS
8th grade parents -- High school course selection is next week.
Time has flown by, and middle school is coming to an end. We want to make sure you and your student have time to talk about available courses before it's time to choose.
Counselors from the four SBISD high schools will be on campus at CSA (along with Mrs. Johnson) to help students in that process. Before your student's course selection date, please be sure to discuss the courses on the course selection sheets. (Documents for MHS, SWHS and SHS are attached at the bottom of this newsletter. NBHS is linked HERE.)
It's important to consider whether your student should take grade-level academic courses or advanced academic courses (AAC), and start thinking about which electives might be interesting or connected to the high school endorsement he/she wants to pursue.
If all of this sounds confusing, we understand! Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Johnson if you have any questions.
Course Selection Dates:
- Spring Woods HS - Wednesday, January 20th
- Memorial HS - Thursday, January 21st
- Stratford HS - Friday, January 22nd
- Northbrook HS - Tuesday, February 2nd
Middle-of-the-Year MAP testing

Choice application reminder
Let's talk about how that affects CSA...
- In order for a new student to qualify for the sibling priority, the attending sibling must be a current 6th or 7th grade student this school year.
- All incoming CSA students must complete the application and meet the grade qualifications regardless of sibling priority.
- Current CSA 6th & 7th grade students do not need to re-apply.
- CSA 8th graders who wish to apply to a choice program for high school (Westchester or Dual Language at SWHS) must complete the application before the deadline.
