News You Can Use

On Tuesday, we are having a PBIS reward. The students are to dress up in clothing that goes along with the job they aspire to be.

Thanks to everyone who came to the art show and book fair last night. I have never been able to help out until this year. It was great seeing so many familiar faces.

The book in the bag presentations went very well. The students were prepared and did a great job sharing about the book they read. The class asked some great questions of each other and the responses were thought out.

On May 3, the students will be taking the math MAP test from 8:45-10:15. Getting a good night sleep and eating a healthy breakfast would be a great way to start the day off right on Tuesday.

Literacy

Next week the students will be reading "Antarctic Journal." it goes right along with the over all theme of our unit which is adventure. The students will be working on finding main idea and details which can be a tricky skill.

Please look at the problem and solution stories the students wrote and then produced using We Video.

Math

In math we just finished Topic 10 and have moved onto Topic 11. The students are using all of the concepts we have learned through out the year to solve the problems in these last few topics. We have discussed the importance as a class that they need to slow down and check all multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction.

Please take a look at Topic 10's vocabulary Storyboard That projects.

Social Studies

Our current area of study is savings. This week the class read a fable called "The Grasshopper and the Ant." The grasshopper had to learn about opportunity cost from the ant. Ask your child to explain how the fable helped them learn about opportunity cost, spending, saving, and interest.

Science

Yesterday, we started our next science unit. It is titled Waves and Information. This unit is quick and it ends with an awesome design challenge. I would tell you what it is, but I can't because it will be spilling the beans.
