Dear Volunteers...
Flu Season is Upon Us. Help Stop the Spread
A Bug and A Wish
The video below was not created by a KISD employee but does provide you with an understanding of how 'A Bug and a Wish' can be used by your student to express their feelings and needs when something or someone upsets them.
Tis the Season for Ice and Snow...Maybe ;-)
The winter season is upon us. Our district staff understands that our decision to open or close schools in bad weather has a significant effect on families. We also understand that our students are better served, both academically and socially, by being in school. But as always, our top priority is the safety of our students.
The superintendent will make the decision to open or close the schools in bad weather by 5:30 A.M. based on analysis of all relevant factors, such as information on road conditions from transportation staff and from the police
The superintendent will make the decision to open or close the schools in bad weather by 5:30 A.M. based on analysis of all relevant factors, such as: Information on road conditions from transportation staff and from the police
- Amount of snow and ice accumulated
- Whether precipitation is continuing
- Building conditions (such as whether we have electricity and heat)
- Parking lot conditions
- Temperature and wind chill
- Weather predictions
- Sidewalk conditions
- What other school districts are doing
Families will be notified of decisions through a variety of media resources. Tune to WBAP-820 AM or KRLD 1080 radio, WFAA8, NBC5, FOX4, KTVT11 or KTXA21 television stations or KSTV for up-to-date information on school closings. Keller ISD does not recommend that you call the school or district office unless it is an emergency. You can also sign up for an e-mail notification service through the district’s website. Check our district Web site www.KellerISD.net for information. A red alert bar will appear across the top of the KellerISD.net home page should campuses be closed.
Special Weather Related Procedures
For the safety of staff and students, we will not go outside the building when there is lightning or hail. The district uses Pocket Perry as our designated weather resource for identifying severe weather conditions. We will not dismiss students when there is hail or lightning within 10 miles of the campus. If we are currently experiencing these types of weather, remaining in the building is the safest place to be. The awnings are effective protection from sun and rain, but they do not protect against lightning and hail.
Safely releasing our students during severe weather will be a slow process. Please expect delays and help us by being patient with this process. The safety of our students is always our first priority.
Rainy Day or Severe Weather Arrival
When there is lightning in the area, parents may wait until the weather has cleared or parents may park and walk their child up to the building. District staff will not be outside to receive students but will be at the doors of our normal drop-off locations. Staff members will greet students as early as 7:40 A.M. at the cafeteria/gym doors or the double doors leading into the kindergarten and 2nd-grade hallways. Students will proceed to their homeroom. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria as usual.
If there is heavy rain but no lightning or hail, the front loop will taper to one lane of traffic in front of the awnings. You will be directed to pull as far forward as possible before stopping to drop off your child in front of the 2nd grade or kindergarten awnings. Do not plan to stop in a specific location. Staff will ensure your child travels through the building to the appropriate location. We promise to get them to where they need to go. The dropoff loop adjacent to our cafeteria on Dalton will function as usual.
Severe Weather and Rainy Day Dismissal Procedures
In case of lightning in the area at the time of dismissal: This is the only scenario in which there is a walk-up option for pick-up
When there is lightning or hail we will not release students out of the building until a parent comes up to the dismissal hallway and escorts them to their vehicle. Parents may not wave from the car for their child to be dismissed. Parents may wait until the weather has cleared or parents may park along the curb at the pick-up location and walk up to the appropriate dismissal hallway (carrying their pick-up sign). Students will be seated in their dismissal hallway. Siblings will be located in the pick-up location of the youngest sibling. Remember to bring a car sign for each of your students, walk up to the entry doors of these locations to request their student(s).
- Kindergarten (and siblings) in the Kinder hallway;
- 2nd & 4th grade (and siblings) in the 2nd-grade hallway;
- 1st grade & 3rd grade (and siblings) in the 1st-grade hallway;
- Walkers/bikers in the gym - parents may approach the doors between the cafeteria and gym to get their student(s).
- Daycare/commercial transportation students will be loaded onto daycare buses/vans when lightning has not been detected in a 10-mile radius of the school for a sustained period.
If your child walks or bikes home, please make arrangements for pick-up. If you are unable to pick-up, make arrangements to have someone who is on your emergency contact list pick-up. If that isn't an option, you will need to contact our office at (817) 744-4600 with the name of the individual you have authorized to pick up your child today.
Heavy Rain (NO Lightning or hail) - This year, there is not a walk-up option for pick-up
- Walkers and bike riders will be held in the gym until the rain subsides unless other pick-up arrangements have been communicated through the office @ (817)744-4600. If you would like to pick up your student, please call the office before 3:00 PM to let them know you or a designee will be driving through the grade level car rider pick-up area. Parents/designees must have the student's car sign or be an approved contact in order for the child to be released to them.
- Kinder & their siblings will wait in the kindergarten hallway. Students will be loaded into their vehicles through the normal car pick-up line. Parents must have their car sign in order for the child to be released to them.
- 1st & 3rd grade (and siblings) will wait in the first-grade hallway. Students will be loaded into their vehicles through the normal car pick-up line. Parents must have their car sign in order for the child to be released to them.
- 2nd & 4th grade (and siblings) will wait in the second-grade hallway. Students will be loaded into their vehicles through the normal car pick-up line. Parents must have their car sign in order for the child to be released to them.
Be sure to contact the office @ (817) 744-4600 no later than 3:00 to provide alternative dismissal arrangements for your student.

Visitor Procedures
- Procedures for visitors apply throughout the entire school day.
- The north end (cafeteria and gym doors) is only available to children. Students may enter through these doors between 7:35 and 7:55 but adults must enter through the lobby doors. Adults attempting to enter through the north doors will be redirected to enter through the office.
ALL visitors will be required to enter through the office, provide picture identification, and obtain a visitor sticker/badge before proceeding to any other part of the building. Adults will be asked to leave their picture identification in the office while in the building and pick it back up as they exit the building through the office. This ensures we know who is in the building at all times.
- Office staff will verify the visitor is a parent, guardian, or approved contact for the student.
Thank you for working with us to ensure the safety and security of our children.

Watch D.O.G.S
WATCH D.O.G.S. is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. Since the program’s creation in 1998, more than 6,800 schools across the country have launched a WATCH D.O.G.S. program of their own. Each school year hundreds of thousands of fathers and father-figures make a positive impact on millions of children by volunteering millions of hours in their local schools through this amazing one-of-a-kind program. Who are Watch D.O.G.S? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities.
Our students love starting their day on BPE Live with their Watch Dog, sharing him with their class, and eating lunch together! All of our students benefit from having Watch D.O.G.S join our learning environment. If you are interested in spending a day with us as a Watch Dog, please sign up to be a Watch D.O.G. at BPE.
Remember to complete your annual volunteer background check on the KISD website well in advance of your scheduled Watch D.O.G day. Background checks must be completed every school year. Approval of your background check must be received before you can volunteer on campus.
Please Read...Important Parent Information
Child Supervision before 7:35 - The campus opens at 7:35 which means there is no supervision for students prior to 7:35. Please do not drop off your student and leave him/her unsupervised prior to 7:35. Likewise, students who walk or bike may need parent help in determining what time to leave home so they DO NOT arrive to campus before 7:35 when supervision isn't available.
Running Club (RC)- Resumes on January 10th.
Please remember that the playground is not available for play during Running Club as supervision is not available. We appreciate your support in helping your student(s) understand that Running Club time is for running. Families are welcome to stay after Running Club is over to enjoy the playground.
- ALWAYS use a crosswalk
- Never release your student from your car onto Dalton or General Worth.
- Cell phone use in the school zone is illegal.

Lunch Menu
Lunch Dates
Parents are welcome to join their students for lunch. Please remember that state law only allows parents/guardians to provide food for their own children. You will not be able to bring food for a friend's child and have him/her join you.
If you've never had the opportunity to dine with us, be sure to bring your driver's license with you when you check in at the office. If you arrive a bit early, we'll have you take a seat in the office and wait for your student's lunchtime before heading to the cafeteria. You may purchase lunch from the cafe, bring in lunch for you and your child, or just sit and enjoy the time with your kiddo as he/she eats. We have parent lunch tables reserved for you to dine with your student. Please know that students will not be able to bring a friend to the guest table to dine with you.
