March 3, 2019
Dear Parents,
Here's what's happening at school this week.
Mt. McSauba Day
March is Reading Month
Our theme for March is the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing. The March Reading Calendar was sent home last week, but you can download the one below if you didn't get one.
Special days this week:
Tuesday- Read a Button Day
Friday- Read a Shirt Day.
English
We will continue reading the novel A Long Walk to Water. Students have a digital notebook where they are recording their thoughts about the book as well as some of the topics it covers, such as the Sudanese Civil War and the lack of water in that part of the world. Many students are writing their own stories about survival, while others are choosing to research some of the countries we are learning more about.
We will have our usual grammar/vocabulary quiz on Friday as well.
Enrichment Writing
Math
Last week, students worked with algebraic expressions. They learned how to identify parts of an expression, and evaluate algebraic expressions. At the end of the week, they took a quiz. There will be an opportunity to do a retake on this quiz if necessary. Students have 2 assignments due on Monday. They are: page 379(2-6)/page 380(1-6) and page 385(2-11)/page 386(1-6). The Chapter 7 test should be around March 14th.
This week, students will be writing algebraic equations. They will also learn how to combine like terms and generate equivalent expressions.
Enrichment Math
Last week, students learned about slope and practiced finding the slope of a line. This week, students will continue to learn about slope.
Social Studies
Science
We will continue to look at evidence that supports Pangea Theory. We will also begin to look at Earth’s age based on relative dating including The Law of Superposition and Cross Cutting. Students will have a test next week Friday March 15 over Plate Tectonics. They will be given a review sheet by next Monday and we will fill out in class but studying and preparing for the test should be done at home.
