Watch our Book Trailers!

Our current bulletin board allows anyone with a QR reader to check out our class' book trailers. A QR reader app is found on our CI iPads, as well as most smart phones. The other students in the school have been stopping to take a look!

During reading, we have continued to work on comprehension and inferencing skills. We have done various full-class close reading activities, as well as small group focus lessons. The students are getting into the habit of rereading to make sure they understand and can answer deeper questions about the text.

We also started book clubs during reading group time. The students are all reading chapter books with their peers and keeping track of the characters, setting, and main events together as they read. I have seen such great cooperation and teamwork!

The students had a chance to write synonym poems utilizing their knowledge of words with similar meanings. We also tried our hand at writing limericks for St. Patrick's Day. The students analyzed the rhyme scheme of the words and phrases. We had a lot of fun and shared lots of silly poems with one another!

Our April writing focus will be poetry, so we will continue exploring various types of poetry after spring break! We will return to our spelling word lists the week we return from break.

Writing: Persuasive & Technology

We have wrapped up our persuasive writing unit with Book Trailers and typed reviews. The students all wrote many reviews on a variety of topics, such as books, movies, places, games, and restaurants. They each chose one to type up so they could also practice their keyboarding and computer skills.

This week, we discussed short story plot elements, and the students wrote a short story about a leprechaun. They made sure to include a problem and solution, as well as other fun story elements.
