Each day, the morning announcements end with the Angelus prayer. Matilda Frost and Evelyn Zimmerman were in the hall when the prayer began. They participated in the daily prayer by praying to the Holy Family.

Immaculate Conception Triduum Continues

Big picture
Today is the final day of the first annual triduum celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The triduum will conclude with Eucharistic Adoration from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 7:00 p.m.

Confirmation Date

The eighth-grade confirmation date is set for Saturday, February 5 at 10:00 a.m. for Immaculate Conception Parish. Due to the fact that we are awaiting the naming of a new bishop, all sacramental events in the calendar are subject to change, so please remain flexible.

New Diocesan Algebra Requirements

Last week, the Office of Catholic Schools announced the new requirements for students to take Algebra I in the eighth grade. This is being done to ensure that students are academically prepared for a high school level class in the eighth grade. The requirements are:

  • The seventh-grade math teacher must recommend the student for Algebra I.
  • The student must show evidence of knowing and understanding the seventh- and eighth-grade mathematics standards. This will be done using the STAR assessment.
  • If the student meets the above requirement, and scores above the 80th percentile on the last three STAR assessments, and has an Algebra readiness score of "Exceeding," the student will take the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test.
  • The student must score at or above the 90th percentile on the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test.

This change goes into effect this spring for the seventh-grade students. Students who are currently in Algebra I are not affected. A letter from Daphne Irby, Associate Director for Teaching and Learning, is below. This letter goes into greater detail about the requirements and the reason for the change.

Thank you!

Thank you to all those that attended our Open House and Christmas Boutique last weekend. We were excited to open the doors and invite people in to see our wonderful Catholic school and high-quality student work on display throughout. If you missed the Open House and are still interested in receiving an individualized tour, please contact Mrs. Bryley at bbyrley@cdeducation.org or call the school office at 614-267-6579.

We would also like to thank all of the volunteers who helped to make the Christmas Boutique a possibility. It is truly a blessing to have so many people who are willing to spend their time turning Marian Hall into a Christmas Wonderland. This is a wonderful community tradition at Immaculate Conception.

Hosted by Clintonville Rotary, the event will feature music by the Whetstone High School choristers and Vintage Brass, children's crafts, hot chocolate, and cookies donated by Weiland's Market. Santa will visit to have his photo taken with, and hear wishes of kids who attend. At about 7:00 p.m., festivities will move outside to the evergreen tree in front of the Whetstone Library window, where - after a community blessing -, the lights will be turned on by this year's honorary illuminator Mike Byrne.
