From The Principal's Desk
Dear Les Bois Parents,
The school year is well into December now and we want to tell you how great the students are here at Les Bois. It is terrific to see many of our students participating in several extra-curricular activities. It is also fun to see them in the halls and at lunch interacting with their peers. Most importantly, it is a real pleasure to see our tremendous teachers and staff working with the students in the classrooms. Les Bois is a great school with a very dedicated staff.
We appreciate all of your support as we work together to educate your children here at Les Bois. Special thanks to many of you who volunteer. For those who can, please consider volunteering within our PTO. We have dances, concessions for ball games, and other activities that need volunteers to help make events successful. We also want to thank all of those who have made donations. Your support is greatly appreciated.
As we head into the new year we will be preparing for final exams. Finals will be administered January 18-20 th . Wednesday, January 18 th , and Thursday January 19 th school will be dismissed at 1:15. Friday, January 20th school will be dismissed at 12:00pm. Please encourage your students to do their best and finish the semester strong.
This calendar year, our teachers have been implementing new grading procedures. Our teachers are putting into practice many ideas that will certainly help our students. Student learning is our #1 goal and we are working very hard to make our practices benefit our students.
With student learning in mind we have had the opportunity this year to visit other schools outside and within our district. We are happy to report that Les Bois is one of the best junior highs in the area and in the state. Again, special thanks to our teachers who work very hard to teach their students. We are proud to have great kids and parents who are a pleasure to work with.
We would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Les Bois PTO
Hello Parents/Guardians from the PTO,
We have had a great semester so far and look forward to Christmas break. We have a lot of openings in our concession for after school. Our Concession stand is the reason why we are able to avoid having a school wide fundraiser. Unfortunately we have not had parents able to staff it lately. We would appreciate it if you could step up and help volunteer your time. Even if it's just one time a month, it makes a difference. At our last PTO meeting we were able to help pay for all the Physical Science classes to attend the Discovery Center experience, pay for costume racks for our theater class as well as providing supplies for our AVID students. These things would not possible if we do not raise funds in our concessions stand. Please help out our students by volunteering your time. I have provided a link below for you to help sign up for this:

The Theater group is looking for a parent with sewing skills who would be able to help them refurbish some costumes. Please email me if you are able to help out.
We also are looking forward to our next schools Dance. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered as well as those who brought snacks for our students for the last dance. It was reported back to me by those who run it that it was the most successful dance in the last 3 years! We love to make these events available for our students! Our next dance is February 10th at 6 pm. I have provided a link for you to sign up as a volunteer.

Speaking of dances, we are looking for some 9th grade parents to help out with our Freshman Farewell dance! We will be having sign ups to help organize this send off event which will be in May. If you would like to be a part of this, please email me directly at mlreichle@gmail.com
Lastly, if you would like more information about the PTO or about joining as a member, please contact me at any time. We hope that you all have a Merry Christmas and enjoy your holiday time off with your student and your families.
GO BLAZERS!

Notes From The Nurse
Colds, Flu and Fever, What to Do?
Few of us make it through the year without catching a cold, having a fever or the flu.
Here are some general rules to follow when trying to decide if your child is too sick to come to school:
Fever: Your child should stay home if he/she has a fever over 100 degrees and /or is experiencing discomfort that would interfere with his/her ability to participate at school.
Colds: you may choose to send cold medication to school if your child is experiencing uncontrollable coughing or congestion. State Law requires that this medication always be kept in the Nurses Office. Please send a note stating when this medication should be given to your child.
Flu: Influenza, or the flu, is a virus that causes high fevers, body aches and chills, fatigue and a severe dry cough that can last for days to weeks. Annual flu shots can help prevent influenza.
Nausea/Vomiting/other GI upsets: If your child vomits in the morning, it is likely that they will feel ill at school and we will have to call you to pick up your child. A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
General Guidelines: washing hands before touching your eyes, nose and mouth and before eating can help prevent the spread of illness. Make sure that your child gets enough sleep, eats balanced meals and exercising regularly can help your child fight illnesses.
Lets all try to stay healthy!
Weather
INCLEMENT WEATHER NOTIFICATION
Education is important and every missed day of school represents lost learning opportunities. However, the Boise School District’s primary concern is for the safety of all students, including students riding buses and walking or biking to school. If students cannot safely travel to school or if schools are not able to operate safely because of citywide dangerous weather conditions, school may be cancelled.
We will not cancel school on days with normal wintery conditions. Light snowfall, cold mornings or areas of ice are not sufficiently dangerous to force the closure of schools. With proper precautions including appropriate clothing, road deicing, and careful driving, students can travel to and from school safely.
The Boise School District covers over 450 square miles of Ada County. We recognize that conditions vary throughout the District, even from street to street, in some cases. Conditions may be extremely dangerous in one area, while perfectly safe everywhere else. If parents believe it is too dangerous for their children to travel to school they have the option to keep their children home. If school is cancelled, it will be cancelled for the entire District. The most frequent dangerous weather conditions facing Boise schools are:
SNOW: Snow levels within the City of Boise are typically light or moderate. However,
there is always the potential for a heavy snowfall to make traveling by vehicle or on foot dangerous. Historically, most snowfall only results in slow traffic and minor accidents throughout the city. Normal snowfalls would not result in school closures.
COLD: Frigid temperatures are more serious than snow when making school closure decisions. On bitterly cold days our concern is for students walking to school. Extremely cold weather also impairs our ability to get buses running, which causes delays in pickup routes, delays which are much more dangerous to riders because of the low temperatures.
ICE: Ice is our most dangerous winter weather condition. Freezing rain and/or refreezing
of melted snow make our roads, streets and sidewalks extremely treacherous for pedestrians, and vehicles. Icy conditions may force us to close, even if it appears that no other dangerous conditions exist.
How is the decision made to close or not to close school? Representatives from transportation agencies, the weather bureau, the highway district, city and county law enforcement agencies, and school administrators, including the Superintendent, check the roads and monitor information throughout the night and early morning hours. We confer by telephone early in the morning to reach a decision.
If school will be closed, we will communicate to local radio and television stations to spread the word. We will also email parents, send a text message, and post closure information at www.boiseschools.org and on our Twitter account @BSDEducation. To sign-up for the District’s emergency text messaging service text SUBSCRIBE to the number 68453. You can also view a short video further explaining our Inclement Weather Procedures by going to www.boiseschools.org and then clicking on the Emergencies tab found under Parents & Patrons > Parent Information.
