Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon Whispering Pines Families and WELCOME BACK!
We have many activities going on this week. REMEMBER no school for Elementary students on Monday, March 21st. We will be administering the MOCK STAAR tests for 4th and 5th graders on Tuesday and Wednesday and a Science Mock STAAR on Thursday for 5th Grade only. We will use the results of these assessments to help craft a review plan that will help students tackle these tests. Please help your little scholar by getting them to bed early and getting them to school on time.
This week will also open our 2nd Book Fair of the year. Please be on the lookout for information regarding special events and late opens. On Thursday we will have our 4th grade musical performance and the much anticipated STEAM night! This is going to be a great family event with a special performance by the Humble High School Drum line! Please join us at 6:00-7:00pm.
We have a very special event coming up on Wednesday, April 6. 5th GRADE MANNERS BANQUET- students receive an etiquette lesson and then dress up in their best and get a fancy meal in a transformed cafeteria. The students love this opportunity and will cherish these memories but we need your help. We need servers and help with set up and take down. Set up will start about 10:00 and the luncheon is scheduled from 11:30-1:00 and take down follows immediately after. All servers will need to dress in a white shirt with black pants or skirt. Please consider helping to make this event special whether you have a 5th grade student or one in the younger grades. SIGN UP HERE!
Finally, report cards will go home and be available in HAC. Please return the envelopes with the signed report card BACK TO SCHOOL. We need to use these all year and many are not coming back. 💲💲.
I am looking forward to seeing all of our magnificent students on Tuesday!
Thank you,
Wendy Anaya, Principal

CAMPUS UPDATES AND REMINDERS✍
CELL PHONES
As a reminder cell phones are not allowed to be used during the day. Once a student walks through the doors the phones must be turned off and put in their backpacks until we walk out of the door for dismissal. Students using their cell phone during the day will have it taken up and placed with the Assistant Principal or Principal for parents to come and pick up. This includes watches that have text and call ability. Thank you for your help.
DISMISSAL REMINDERS
Please remember that the front entrance is for Daycare and buses ONLY. We will redirect you to the car rider line. When parents come to pickup their "walker" in the front it clogs up the area and the buses and daycares can not get through.
TARDIES AND ABSENCES
We have many children continuing to arrive after the tardy bell and are missing instruction. Please bring your children to school by 7:45 am if you want them to eat breakfast and leave them the entire day so we can insure they are receiving instruction in all content areas. When they arrive at 8:30 they have missed a lesson. Thank you!
BREAKFAST IN THE CLASSROOM
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your child to school by 7:45 if you would like them to eat breakfast! We are serving all children breakfast this year. If you want your child to eat at school please get them here by 7:45am so they have time to eat their breakfast before we start class at 8:00. We have many students coming right at 8:00 and then wanting to eat breakfast. We don't want them to miss instruction time.
DONATIONS TO THE PANDA MART
Our children all love the Panda Mart! Panda Bucks are like gold and they earn them through great behavior and great work and showing Panda Pride. However we could use your help. We can't pay for these items through Title 1 funds so we rely on our teachers and families to make donations. Please check out the link to the Amazon Wish List for items you can donate to the Panda Mart. COME ON....HELP A PANDA OUT!

Counselor Corner:
Check out our Counseling 3rd Quarter Newsletter. This will give you information on our guidance lessons and the Great 8 Skill for these 9 weeks, Goal Directed Behavior. Check in with your child and let them tell you what they learned about setting goals and why it is important for us to set goals. Have them identify strategies that they would use to persevere through challenging situations when they are trying to reach their goals. Remember to practice positive self-talk and mindfulness each day.

NEWS FROM NURSE LINDSEY
In the past two weeks we have had a lot of sickness come through the clinic. We have had the flu, strep, respiratory infections and some stomach viruses going around. Please keep your student home if they are running a fever of 100 degrees or higher. They are free to return to campus once they have been fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever reducing medications.
The weather is changing and we are beginning to see warmer temperatures. Please provide a water bottle for your child everyday. Teaching students to stay hydrated (especially after activity like PE and recess) helps keep them in the classroom learning instead of in the clinic feeling rundown and with a headache.

It will also be stamped in the front and back with our school name. If you and your child are absolutely sure the book(s) is lost then you can pay for it online at https://tinyurl.com/ycktksny.
