In 1775 the Dutch set up a brisk trade with the Lenni- Lenape, exchanging hatchets, mirrors, combs, iron pots, and smocking pipes for fish and deer meat. The Indians also liked a special kind of woolen cloth that the Dutch brought. Called duffel, it began to replace deerskins in the making of Indian cloth.
