Ebert Updates
Dear UMAC Parents,
We certainly appreciated sharing all of the hard work and goals your learner has set at our Parent Conferences last week. The students were so excited for us to share with you all that they have accomplished. Your support and encouragement is greatly appreciated!

Writing
This week our writers will be focusing on sentence fluency. As they practice how to craft well built sentence, we will be looking at previous writing samples. Our student blogs, will be a terrific way for our writers to examine how they have been writing and ways to make their sentence writing stronger. As we shared in conferences, this is often a challenging concept for many of our writers, but so important!
Math
This week old friends will:
Revisit the associative property of addition
Review for unit test (test on Thursday)
New friends will focus on:
Multiplying a whole number, up to four digits, by a one-digit
Solving multi-step word addition and subtraction problems with whole numbers
- Using estimation and mental math to validate their answers
Shared Reading
In shared reading our team will read Recovering From Katrina. This informational text, is a newspaper article that gives information about a topic using many visual features. For example, text graphics such as maps and photographs with captions, help students comprehend the important text. We will continue to work on sequencing of events as a way to summarize this story.
Social Studies
As we continue to work on our map skills, our students are being introduced to the regions within the United States. We had three different opportunities for our students to use different types of maps to answer questions about our nation. Please have your learner share their study guide as they prepare for their Chapter 2 on Friday.
