It's hard to believe we are in the month of April. Let's hope April brings more sunny weather and warmer temperatures. April continues to be a busy month at GMS, with many activities and events. April 15th will be an early release with dismissal at 11:05 am. MCAS continues this week for Grade 8 and Grade 7, please see the MCAS schedule in this newsletter.

Ms. Robinson's 7th graders are working on creating nature scenes. Below is a student's interpretation of a nature scene through the process of realism and abstraction.

Friday, April 15 will be a half day for the Galvin Middle School. This is a make-up-day. As usual school will begin at 7:45. Students will be dismissed at 11:05.

GMS Canton Unified Bulldogs hosted the Jamboree to wrap up the season. Canton, Westwood and Walpole played a March Madness tournament. All teams played well, showed great sportsmanship, basketball skills and collaboration. All played well and had a lot of fun. The fans were great! We are looking forward to next season!

The Grade 8 End of Year Activities Committee comprised of parents, teachers, and administration has been working hard the past few months planning an engaging and memorable end of year experience for our 8th grade students.

• Thursday, June 16th - Promotional Celebration at GMS (6/17 rain date)
• Friday, June 17th - Grade 8 Semi-Formal at CHS 7-9:30 pm

Ms. Robinson's 8th graders are working on generating invented cultural masks. The imagery is inspired by traditional mask imagery from around the world. These invented masks are decorative only. Students used plastic mask molds and built up their 3-dimensional images with recycled materials, covered them with plaster craft, and painted them.

It is our students' responsibility to bring their charged Chromebook to school with them each day. We have a very limited number of loaners available and are using those to first support students who's Chromebooks aren't working. The Chromebook is an essential, daily, school supply. Please help your child come up with a process that allows them to have their device ready for school each day. Thank you.

With our lunch rotation change, 6th grade lunch now begins at 12:25 and ends at 12:51. With this later time, 6th grade students may have a working, peanut free snack for five minutes during 3rd or 4th period.

Greetings from the Canton Public Library. We are kicking off our annual town-wide "Canton Reads" program in April.

This year we are excited to be reading "How to be a Good Creature: A Memoir in 13 Animals" by National Book Award finalist Sy Montgomery. For younger readers, the companion picture book version "Becoming a Good Creature" is also available.

Below is a list of free programs and events that we are hosting at the library in April. We are also including a flyer for an exciting New England Aquarium program that will be happening during April vacation and may be of particular interest to students and their caregivers.

GMS is looking for a lunch aide to help supervise lunches each school day from 11:15 am to 1:00 pm. If you are interested in joining the Galvin team, please email Mr. Spillane, spillanej@cantonma.org.
