From the Principal
A few friendly reminders: Regarding drop off in the morning at the middle school, please pull up all the way to the tiger mailbox to drop off your student. This will help with the back up of cars onto Kennedy Avenue in front of the school. Also, pick up at the end of the day needs to be in the back of the school. Please do not pick up your student in front unless it is past 3:00 PM. When you email your student's teacher about their absence, please also contact the office. We appreciate your attention to these matters.
There has been a change in the Parent/Teacher Conferences for the school year: The dates are: November 10th, November 15th, and March 9th from 3:30-7:30 PM.
We are excited this year at the Middle School to be using the universal screener iReady. iReady will truly give us the academic information needed to assess student learning in reading and math for all students. Our staff has done a tremendous job motivating students this past week and students are ready for the screener this week.
Thank you to everyone for a great start to the new year. Please feel to reach me at any time for any assistance that you may need.
Meet the '22/'23 Middle School Staff
Counselor's Corner- Mrs. Jessica Luecke
This month we are introducing our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) to the students through the Second Step Curriculum. Over the course of this school year, students will work through four units; the first of which focuses on Mindset and Goal Setting. The middle school program is designed to be progressive for students from 5th through 8th grade by introducing similar unit topics but developing deeper content as they move through grade levels. For example, the first few lessons in Unit One at the fifth-grade level will focus students on creating personal goals along with a plan and reflection process on how to achieve those goals. Sixth grade lessons dive deeper into different brain strategies that can be used to work through the specifics of student plans and goals. Our seventh-grade lesson focus centers around creating new brain pathways when we need to work through mistakes or failures, and the eighth grade takes a deep dive into self-identity and how to harness your individual strengths to pursue your goals.
As we move through this school year, should any needs arise, please feel free to contact me by phone or email, jluecke@hgsd.k12.wi.us.
