Getting Ready!
The first day of school is August 24, 2020. We want the students to be ready to learn so CES has prepared a supply bag for every student doing Independent Study or Distance Learning. Included in the bag will be pencils, markers, scissors, glue, crayons, a white board and expo marker, notebook, watercolor set and a clipboard. We will be arranging frequent pick up/drop off days for supplies and work.
The general schedule will be virtual live learning and lessons in the mornings and practice work in the afternoons. Teachers are developing daily routines that include morning welcome as a class, live virtual instruction time, practice/work time and recorded lessons to watch. A new thing for parents to learn about is Canvas, our learning management system (kind of like a classroom.) This will be where you and your student access the work, communicate with teachers, find resources, and see what to do each day.
One thing to do at home is to create a work space for your student. Students will have their Chromebook and the school will be sending supplies, workbooks, and books home. Find a spot that can be their own, with ample light and comfortable seating. School desks will be available for check out next week. Look for that information in next Thursday's newsletter.
We look forward to seeing you!

What to Expect in Distance Learning the First Week
Welcome to the school year! Adventure awaits this year at CES! We are so excited to have our students back through Distance Learning. We are confident that this will be a great year for our students as we take them on adventures in reading, math, art, science, social studies, music, and more!
School begins on Monday, August 24th. For the first week of school, all students will be zooming with their teachers from 8:30-9:30. (Look for those links to be posted tomorrow in your email.) For the rest of the day, again for the first week only, students should exercise, spend at least 30 minutes reading, and organize their learning space at home. Our second week of school will transition into our schedule for the year. This year, students will be in their Distance Learning classrooms from 8:30-12:00 (with breaks built in) and also complete activities in the afternoon that include reading, writing, and math.
During the first week, teachers are devoted to meeting with each family, individually, in front of CES for 20 minute Back to School Parent Conferences. At this time, we will be showing you and your child how to get started with your student’s Canvas account, how to locate weekly work, we will provide supplies, and also go over some logistics about how the school year will work. In accordance with Plumas County Public Health, please wear a mask and be aware that we are required to conduct temperature checks upon your arrival.
Please bring your child’s charged Chromebook to their scheduled meeting in front of the school, so we can go through all the things you need to know to start our adventure together this year.
