Conversation Starters

Ask your child...

What kinds of persuasive letters has he/she been writing during Writing Workshop the past couple of weeks.

Reading In Action

Read with your child. Ask....

What is the setting of the story?

What is the story mostly about?

Literacy Workstations

Writers Workshop

As Writers we can write letters to persuade others.

Reading Workshop

We can think about what the characters might say in the story.

Shared Reading

We can state details in the non-fiction stories we read.

We can create rhyming words with words we find in the story.

Math Workshop

We can find the missing addend to create a sum of ten.

As Botanists, we can state what plants need to survive.

As Ornithologists, we can state the life cycle of a duck (as we closely observe our duck eggs hoping they will hatch!).

Author: Kaylin Merriam

I encouraged our writers to create a "Book 2" of a Pete the Cat story we recently read. Kaylin wrote a delightful sequel to the story we read in class. What an awesome writer!
