Bushy Bear Tales

Edition 13 - February 19, 2020

Greetings BPES Community,

Thank you for your continued partnership! Last week, we welcomed over 250 parents for February conferences. We hope that you enjoyed the opportunity to connect with your child's mathematics teacher and hear about his or her progress. Thanks to our PTA for sponsoring the Valentine's Workshop during conferences, so that our students could engage in some fun crafts while parents attended conferences!

We would also like to thank our BPES special education team for planning and facilitating our first Coffee & Conversations last week! The opportunity to engage with one another around the topic of inclusion and communication for all students was so valuable. If you were not able to join us, we have included the presentation slides below. Be on the lookout for future Coffee & Conversations opportunities to come!

Believe it or not, we are preparing to welcome families who will be registering children for kindergarten in the fall during the first week of March. If you have a rising kindergartener or have friends and neighbors who do, please visit the Getting Ready for Kindergarten page at the HCPSS website. Students must be 5 years old by September 1, 2020 to enroll for kindergarten. Kindergarten registration will take place the week of March 9.

Fondly,

Julia Bialeski, Principal

Keith West, Assistant Principal

Maryland Reading Month Recap

Our students certainly enjoyed Maryland Reading Month, which we celebrated throughout January. As a culminating treat, Mrs. Bialeski and Mr. West made good on their promise to get duct taped to the wall to celebrate our school-wide goal of reading 350,000 minutes! Our students worked hard to read, and they earned their reward! Congratulations to our second grade students, who read the most minutes out of all of the grades! As a surprise, these students got to do the honor of taping their principals to the wall!

A special thank you goes to the students in Mrs. Pickett's math class, who tallied the school-wide and grade level totals each week throughout the month for us. Thank you to Mrs. Smith and the entire reading committee for planning such a wonderful month-long celebration.

4th Grade Artist-in-Residence

During the first two weeks of February, our 4th grade students were able to engage in a residency with artist Christina Delgado. Our culminating event was a Gallery Walk, and we welcomed many parents and guardians to view the students' amazing work. For more information on the residency, please visit the PTA's website.
