art installations.
We hope you can join us for this unique opportunity. The observatory
is located at Jack Fields Elementary School, 2505 S. Houston Avenue,
Humble. Parking will be in front of the school, and across the street
in the parking lot of The Luke Church. The observatory’s website is:

Colds vs. Allergies
The similarities between these often lead to confusion. One can easily mistake an allergy for a cold or vice versa. Check the table below to help determine if your child has an allergy or a cold:
Symptoms- Allergies
Runny or stuffed nose, sneezing, watery and itchy eyes.
Symptoms- Colds
Can include fever, aches and pains, sore and scratchy throat along with allergy symptoms.
Warning Time- Allergies
Symptoms begin almost immediately after exposure to allergen.
Warning Time-Colds
Usually takes a few days after exposure to the virus.
Duration-Allergies
Symptoms last as long as you are exposed to the allergen and beyond.
Duration-Colds
Symptoms should clear up within several days to a week.
Colds:
Cause: A virus. Spread by breathing in germs or coming in direct contact with an infected person.
Prevention: Frequently wash hands, use a disinfectant on any contaminated surfaces and cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing.
Treatment: Rest, drink lots of fluids and eat nutritiously. Over-the-counter medication will help to reduce the symptoms but they will not stop the cold process – only your immune system can do that over time.
Allergies:
Cause: A reaction to an exposure to an allergen.
Prevention: Reduce exposure to known allergens.
Treatment: Prescription or over-the-counter medications can reduce allergy symptoms. If you are unsure of what you are allergic to or the best treatment for your allergies please talk to a doctor. Allergies are not contagious.

Counselor Corner
Dear parents/guardians,
I'm pleased to announce that next week (September 24-27th) we will be taking part in Start With Hello action week! Start with Hello is a fun way to create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within our classrooms and school. Last year, over 12,000 schools from across the U.S. participated in Start with Hello action week to highlight and spread the message of the power of Start with Hello's three simple steps:
1. See someone alone
2. Reach out
3. Start with Hello
I encourage you to talk to your child about Start with Hello and starting next week see what they've learned.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Emmite
