HRCSD Update

February 22, 2021

Update from Superintendent, Rich Polkinghorn

Dear Hood River County School District families,

Hood River County School District (HRCSD) plans to reopen schools for in-person instruction on Monday, March 8, beginning with its youngest students. You are receiving this message because you have a student between kindergarten and fifth grade (K-5). Please review the chart below for the timeline. This phase-in plan outlines these key dates as well as details for returning all students (K-12) to their schools by April 5.
Big picture

In this message, you will learn more about the school schedule, school meals, and school district transportation.

School Schedule

Students may arrive at their school site between 7:15am and 7:45am. On-site learning will occur Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 11:45am. Students will have distance learning activities in the afternoons when they return home from school.

School Meals

Breakfast and lunch are free for all students between now and June 30, 2021. All students will receive breakfast in their classrooms when they arrive at school. All students will receive lunch to take home with them at the end of the day.

By Friday, Feb. 26, please complete this form to share if you need additional meals sent home with your student for their siblings who are between the ages 1 and 18 years old.

School District Transportation

If your family needs transportation, please complete this form to request transportation by Friday, Feb. 26. Only students who have requested transportation will be allowed to ride on the bus. This registration allows the bus drivers to take attendance and maintain students in a stable cohort.

Families are encouraged to use alternative modes of transportation for their student’s arrival and departure to school, such as parent/family transporting, walking, and biking, to allow for physical distancing and limit opportunities for exposure to other students.

As the date approaches for reopening schools, please pay close attention to messages shared with you by your school. These messages will include additional information and details. In the meantime, if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please contact the office of your school.

Our teachers and staff look forward to seeing your students at school in March!

Sincerely,

Rich Polkinghorn

Superintendent, Hood River County School District
