Cougar Connect Community Edition
February 20 - March 3
Principal Arellano's Post
Greetings Cougar Families!
We have had an amazing February! Thank you for partnering with us in growing your students. We could not do the amazing work without you!
Please be on the lookout for teacher's communication regarding spring parent-teacher conferences. These conferences are designed to connect with new community members who missed out on October conferences.
Please be sure to look in your student's backpack daily and check your Remind app for communication from the school and your student's teacher. Students have nightly homework. Please support them in completing homework and reading nightly.
Important Information Regarding School Lunch
With the passing of Proposition FF school meals will become free at the start of the 2023/2024 school year. The procedures for school meals will follow the current process for the rest of this school year.
More information on menus, pricing, payments meal applications and charge policies can be accessed at www.wsd3ns.com.
If you have any questions please call Nutrition Services at 719.391.3560.
Please keep an eye on your student's lunch account balance. If you have concerns, please reach out to our Cafeteria Manager, Mrs. Coll. Call the front office and we can transfer your call.
The link for online lunch payments is attached. Your child's student ID number will be on their profile page that you sign off on in the classroom when you meet the teacher. Cash or check can be accepted at the school.

Habits of Success Focus: Resilience
ROARS Focus: Attitude
The skill of Resilience helps our students in the following ways:
Helps students to focus on keeping a mindset free of distractions such as challenges or stresses from home or social interactions at school. Helping students to remember habits such as stress management, relationships, and a growth mindset to support them in bouncing back from difficult situations and overcoming setbacks. It also helps our students to respond to failure as a learning experience and knowing that failure is inevitable as it is part of the learning cycle.
Circle Prompts:
- Think about a time that you failed at something. Did you give up or did you keep trying?
- How long did it take you to learn to swing, ride a bike, dribble a ball, or jump rope? Do you think that you demonstrated resilience while you were learning?
- Do you feel safe to fail in school? Why or why not?
- Do you think that your teacher has ever failed? How do you think they responded?
- Ask an important adult at home how they responded to failure and what they learned from it.
- Besides school, where is it also important that you feel safe to fail? Why is it important in this setting?
- What is one setback that you have had this week? How did you respond?
- What is one thing that you mastered at school this quarter? How long did it take you to become really good?
- How will the habit of resistance help you as a teenager or adult?
- How will resistance help you today?
