Davis/Martin Peek at the Week
September 12 - 16
Dear Parents,
Please check the Upcoming Tests section below. There are several quizzes/tests students need to prepare for this week. On Friday, students will have a Science and Literacy test. Be on the lookout for study materials being sent home.
Each quarter, students are required to read and test on 5 self-selected chapter books. This will serve as part of their Reading grade. First quarter ends on Wednesday, October 12th. Students have 4 1/2 weeks left to fulfill this requirement. If students are reading in class and reading 20 minutes a night at home, this should be attainable. Progress reports will be sent home on Friday for parents to look at, sign, and return.
We will be starting Spelling this week! We will be using a program called Sitton Spelling, which differs from the traditional spelling programs you may be used to. This year, students will learn to spell for writing, rather than learning to spell for a test. There will not be a list of spelling words sent home to memorize, rather, students will learn and practice basic spelling concepts each week. They will then apply those concepts to a cloze story word test. (Students will receive a printed story where words have been removed. I will read the same story aloud to them. When they hear the words that have been removed, they will write them in the blank spaces provided). More information will be sent home this week. Our Unit 1 test will be given on Wednesday, September 21st.
