Charger Check-In
March 11, 2022
A Note from Ms. Owens
We have had a great week at St. Catherine! As a community, we raised over $820 to support Catholic Relief Services' work in Ukraine and with Ukranian refugees. Our 5th-8th graders attended a meditative Stations of the Cross led by some of our 8th graders. Our 4th graders constructed very enticing Leprechaun traps. Our 8th graders participated in a lively Socratic seminar discussing Coach Carter in Mrs. Harris' class. In reading resource, our 1st graders showed their skills as they read In My Yard. And Thursday, our students enjoyed their new recess equipment!
Thanks to the work and generosity of the School Advisory Board, all grade levels have their own recess equipment - volleyballs, playground balls, kickballs, footballs (for older kids) and jump ropes (for younger kids). The students had lots of fun with the new equipment. And this new structure allows us to help students develop a sense of responsibilty as each grade level is responsible for their own equipment.
Just below in the Check-In, you will find a link to the 5Essentials survey for all school families. This is the third year the Archdiocese is using this tool to gather feedback from parents and guardians. The survey is now open, and my hope is that one parent or guardian from each SCA household will complete the survey. Responses go directly to the UChicago Impact - not to the Archdiocese or St. Catherine. We will ultimately see final results in the aggregate. We will not recieve any individual responses. The survey will be open through Friday, March 18.
As we move into our fourth week of being mask-optional, most other Covid mitigations are in place. My understanding is mitigations will lifted layer by layer on a very measured basis. This morning, we learned that we can reopen the water fountains in school. That being said, I encourage students to continue bringing water bottles as they greatly improve hydration for the children.
