The Pamlico Sound
By: Patrick Bereza
It covers the most of the East Coast of NC shores and almost all West of the outer Banks.
Whats so important about estuaries?
Estuaries are vital habitats for thousands of marine species. Estuaries protect environments and hold abundant food for organisms, and is an ideal location for fish and shellfish to reproduce.
This sound/estuary holds Dolphins, Sea Turtles, Red Drum Fish, Flounder Fish and even Sharks!
“There’s been discussion that Pamlico Sound could become Pamlico Bay,” there is a threat to the Pamlico sound, and it is high rate of sea-levels rising. It would overflow some of the mainland turning into a bay instead of a sound.
