The Falcon Flyer

Weekly News and Updates - Volume 2 Issue 27 - 3/18/22

Warming Up

It's starting to feel a lot more spring-y on campus here at Fletcher Elementary. The purple blooms of the iceplant are on full display and the maple trees are starting to bud with new leaves. Big changes are on the horizon here. The perimeter fencing project is nearing completion. Every day next week will be a minimum day for conferences. After Spring Break, masks will be optional both indoors and outdoors. We recognize that this will be a huge adjustment for many students, and cause anxiety in others. Our staff will be working tirelessly to ensure that students and adults who continue to wear masks after April 4th are not made to feel anything less than a part of the Fletcher Family.

After Spring Break there will be only 10 weeks left in the school year. Depending on guidance to be released in April, we hope to welcome all families on campus for Open House on April 28th. We'll also be gearing up for an in-person 5th grade promotion ceremony as well. More info to come on those two big events.

Indoor Mask Guidance Update

As you may have heard, SDUSD will no longer be requiring students or staff to wear masks indoors starting on April 4th. Students and staff are still allowed to wear masks wherever and whenever they feel necessary. This updated guidance is the result of collaborating with top pediatric experts and epidemiologists at UCSD. San Diego County has recently been placed in one of the lowest COVID exposure risk categories. With the current downtrend in cases and hospitalizations, the expectation is that we will be in a much better place after Spring Break. Prior to break, your student will be provided with at-home rapid antigen tests and recommendations for when to take the test prior to returning to school. Stay tuned for more details.

Stories with Sailors

Our first full Friday programming of Stories with Sailors took place today! This opportunity is through an educational partnership between Fletcher Elementary and Navy squadron VRM-50. Each week, navy servicemen and women will visit classes at Fletcher, read to our kids, and have fun with them at recess. As the partnership grows, volunteers from the squadron will be on campus to help with events and be motivational mentors for our students. Big shout-out to our ESA, Sarah Myers and AZ1 Strickland for launching this incredible experience.

2022-2023 PRIMETIME Application Now Open

The application for our before/after school program, PrimeTime, went LIVE on Monday, March 7th, 2022 on the district website, www.sandi.net at 6:00AM.

The PrimeTime Application is open to all families. Not just the families attending PrimeTime.

In order for applications to be processed during the initial application period they must be submitted by 9:59PM on April 15th, 2022. Applying for the program does not guarantee you a spot in the program.

Attending the Program during the 21/22 school year does not guarantee you a spot in the 22/23 school year program, you must submit a new application every year. Applications will be processed on June 17th, 2022 and families will be notified of their status in the program at that time.

Student of the Week - Evangeline!

This week's Student of the Week is Evangeline in Mrs. Sperry's class. Evangeline is not only a friend to all inside the classroom, but she is to all students in other classes as well. She is a model student who works hard to stay on task and support her friends. Her leadership and motivation is inspiring to everyone around her.

Congratulations Evangeline, and thank you for being a phenomenal Falcon!

California Healthy Kids Survey

Hey families! It's time for the annual California Healthy Kids Survey. This is administered each year to staff members, families, and students to learn more about our areas of strength as a site and areas in which we can grow to better meet the needs of our students and school community. The window for administration is now open and we need your support in trying to reach a 100% participation rate by the end of the month. Please take the time to complete the survey by clicking this link: PARENT California Healthy Kids Survey. Thank you in advance for your support!

FREE COVID TESTING SITE - 7 DAYS A WEEK

San Diego Unified School District now has a new testing site for all students and staff. If your student is showing symptoms at home or at school, this new resource will provide a quick and easy way to get test results so they can return to school as soon as possible. Testing will now be available at the Education Center located at 4100 Normal Street, 92103. It's only FIVE MILES away from Fletcher!

The site is open from 7:00AM - 7:00PM MONDAY through FRIDAY and 8:00AM - 5:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. No appointments necessary!
