Counselor's Corner
From Ms. Hilton and Ms. Shade: January 13, 2024 Repeat
· Our Character Trait of the Month of January is RESPONSIBILITY! We will continue to teach, emphasize, and reinforce the importance of being RESPONSIBLE throughout the month! Responsibility is also one of our 3 R school expectations and throughout the school year we focus on ways students can demonstrate responsibility throughout the school building. Consider discussing with your child ways they can demonstrate responsibility at home!
· Our classroom counseling lessons this month will align with our character trait of the month, and we will focus on RESPONSIBILITY!
· We hope everyone enjoyed the snow day! While snow days can be a lot of fun, our recent late arrivals are a change in school routine for our students. Children thrive with routine and some children have a difficult time when routines are disrupted. As we return to school next week, if you notice your child having difficulty readjusting and needing additional support, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Shade or Ms. Hilton!
· SES has joined with Friendship Community Baptist Church for our HeartFELT (Filling Empty Little Tummies) program. The HeartFELT program provides qualifying students with meals and snacks each weekend. If you would like more information or would like your child to participate in the HeartFELT program, please contact your student’s school counselor to sign up.
· Should your family need assistance with school supplies (now or during the school year), please contact your child's classroom teacher or counselor.

Community Resources and Fliers
The following link includes events, activities, and opportunities for young people offered by organizations in the community.
These events and activities are not sponsored by the Calvert County Board of Education or Calvert County Public Schools. We provide equal opportunities to outside agencies to distribute materials that offer opportunities to students and/or their parents, but that permission should not be considered a recommendation or endorsement by the school district.
Repeated from Last Week
- Our staff celebrated Mrs. Gray, Kindergarten teacher, this week. Soon, we will be welcoming Baby Gray to our SES family. The photo at the top is the quilt that was made by her students. They are very excited to meet him when he arrives. They did a great job!
- We receive questions about the difference between an Alert to Improve (minor incident) and a Discipline Referral (major incident). The PBIS team developed a helpful flier for you to keep as a resource. It is attached below.
