Structured Learning Time
In December 2020, in an effort to address the growing “feelings of isolation and disconnection” among students and mitigate the potential impact on their long term mental health, the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education adopted amended regulations to set minimum expectations for how much live instruction and synchronous instruction districts that are operating hybrid and remote learning models must provide.
In a review of the current MRE schedules, it was determined that additional time is needed to meet the DESE requirements. To that end, MRE staff have been working diligently to find additional time in their schedules to meet with students. As a result, beginning next week, schedules for the at-home learning in grades 1-5 will be updated to reflect these changes and include this additional time. Teachers will be communicating these changes to parents and guardians within the next week if they have not done so already. While it is recognized that this may present a challenge for some students and families, please understand that this is a State requirement that we must adhere to. Attendance for these additional sessions will be taken. In the end, the adjustments we are making are designed to support students and help them feel more connected both with the staff at MRE and their peers. As always, we appreciate your support and continued partnership in helping us meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of our students.
Welcome Nurse Megan to MRE!
I want to introduce the MRE community to Nurse Megan. Megan Talarico will be filling for Nurse Lyndsey Kilduff who recently left on maternity leave. It is exciting for Mrs. Kilduff and her husband to be able to spend time with their new family. While she is out, we are very lucky to have a talented and experienced nurse filling in. Nurse Megan has experience in schools as well as at UMass Memorial Hospital. She has worked in the district for the past two years and will be at MRE on Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays. Mondays will be covered by the LBMS nurse, Amy Jamieson, or the district nurse, Nancy Boutin.
If you need to contact the nursing office please email Megan at email@example.com or call the MRE Health office at 978-365-5870.
