6th grade- Scoliosis Screening
Dear 6th Grade Parent or Guardian,
The Pennsylvania school health law requires scoliosis screening for students in grades six and seven. Screening will take place on Thursday March 10, 2022. The purpose of the screening is to detect possible curvature of the spine. If the condition is detected early and treated appropriately, progressive spinal deformity may be prevented.
The screening is very simple and quick. Certified school Nurses will check your child’s back by observing it while the student stands and bends forward. You will be informed following the screening if there is any reason to have your child examined further by your personal health care provider.
The students will come to the health room. Each child is observed individually in a private setting. Students do not disrobe. They will be asked to remove outer layers /sweatshirts or hoodies. Please have your child layer their clothing. Students are encouraged to wear a snug fitting top such as a T-shirt or under armor as their bottom layer.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the screening procedure. If you prefer to exclude your child from scoliosis screening, please make that request to me in writing prior to the screening date. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Jennifer L. Donovan RN, BSN, CSN

Attendance
Click here for PDF directions for how to input the absence, tardy, or early dismissal.
Click here for video directions for how to input the absence, tardy or early dismissal.
Requests made using the parent portal will also serve as the excuse for the absence. Parents will not be required to submit an excuse either electronic or written.
Parents and guardians can also still call the school to report an absence, but emails will no longer be accepted.
In addition, when a student is absent from school, but the school did not receive communication from the parent or guardian, the following communication will be sent:
- A text message will be sent midmorning notifying the parent or guardian of the absence
- An email will also be sent at the end of the school day reminding the parent or guardian that the student was marked absent.
Thank you for your attention to this.
A Message from the School Nurse
Hello Families,
I want to remind everyone that flu season is upon us. I am asking that families consider getting a flu vaccine. We want to keep everyone in our building as healthy as possible. Children are typically out of school for at least a week with the flu. Please ask your doctor if you have concerns about getting the vaccine. Putting a reminder on your phone or calendar is a good way to remember to prioritize your health.
Stay well,
Jennifer L. Donovan RN, BSN, CSN

District Information
Kindergarten Registration
Visit www.cbsd.org/register for more details, including necessary documents to gather in order to register your kindergarten students. Kindergarten registration opens November 1. Please consider as soon as possible to aid the district in its planning for 2022-2023.
CBSD Technology when Traveling
Currently, the Technology and Innovation Department blocks Microsoft Office 365 logins to Outlook, OneDrive, ClassLink, and Canvas from foreign countries. This aids in protecting our CBSD user accounts and organization from malicious computer attacks from outside of the United States.
Students who travel cannot assume their devices will work once they leave the United States. For student out-of-country access requests, please know that access to technology for vacations will not be approved at this time.

Breakfast and Lunch Programs
In April 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service extended the program that will provide for free meals for all students, regardless of income, for the 2021-22 school year. This has been made possible by nationwide waivers that provide for free meals for all students through June 2022.
All menus are available to be viewed online up to 2 weeks in advance by visiting www.cbsd.nutrislice.com.
Students are entitled to one complete reimbursable breakfast per day and one complete reimbursable lunch per day. Any second entrée will be charged to the students’ lunch account. We encourage all families to put money on their students account through MySchoolBucks.com as there will be no cash transactions this year in an effort to serve the students as safely and swiftly as possible.
