In order to make this day a reality for our students, PARENTS, GUARDIANS, & GRANDPARENTS are welcome to engage students in one of the theme projects. We need you to share with our students your job, talents, hobbies or expertise. Any help you can offer - from planning and organizing an activity that uses your expertise, to donating resources, to showing up on the day to help kids explore. Any amount of time and effort is appreciated.

Manor School is Changing Lives in Uganda Through Clean Water!

Big picture

A note from the Ugandan Water Project:

"I'm excited to share that 4 of the 6 rainwater collection systems Manor School's third grade students sponsored this winter have been completed and are now transforming the lives of people in Uganda. Because of your support, 1128 students and teachers at 4 schools now have access to clean, safe drinking water.

Let that sink in! More than one thousand people have on-site access to clean, safe water access right at their school.

Manor School did that!

We're so grateful that you and your 3rd grade students chose to partner with the Ugandan Water Project to give water and give life to Ugandan students and teachers for years to come. To see all the details on the first 4 projects of this set of 6 you sponsored, check out the impact reports below, where you'll find photos, GPS coordinates, survey data, and more. I'm also happy to be able to share a video from Jess Alinaitwe, filmed personally for you and your students talking about your reports and impact. You can view that video here.

We're so grateful for each of the lives you've already helped transform through these first 4 projects."

NYSWYSA will run a free soccer event in Webster, NY on Sunday, May 22nd, to introduce the children to soccer in hopes to get them involved in the sport.

The event is completely free, and each participant will receive a gift (small soccer ball, water bottle, drawstring bag).

HF-L Manor School Odyssey of the Mind team headed to World Finals

An all-girls vehicle engineering team including 4th and 5th graders from Manor is advancing to the national stage at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals May 25-28 at the University of Iowa Campus. For the first time in District history, an HFL team will compete with teams from across the nation and world. Their problem this year was to design and build a vehicle that could do a variety of tasks such as independently travel in a circle, pick up and transport an object, drag an object, and cross a barrier. After placing second at the regional competition in March, the team moved on to the State competition and finished in the top three, earning the right to represent New York State at the World Finals. The team is coached by Jessa Burdett and team members include Betsy Burdett, Maisie Burdett, Willa Jones, Kate Lighthouse, and Stella Schaefer. Please come out May 17th to support the team while they perform their problem at Cougar Creations at 5:30. The team will also be hosting a STEAM activity table in the lobby during the Budget Vote at 4:30-7:00 for all to enjoy. Odyssey of the Mind is an international team-based creative problem solving program that engages students in learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to guide the process. The HFL Odyssey of the Mind program is celebrating its 23rd year of creative collaborative problem solving.

A Note From Our Nurse

Big picture

We are seeing increasing Covid cases at Manor School this month. Please remember, if your child is sick, they should stay home until feeling well and symptoms have greatly improved. This includes nausea, stomach ache, diarrhea, sore throat, coughing and sneezing, headache that is unusual for your child, and nasal congestion/runny noses. Additionally, students must be fever free, without fever reducing medication, for greater than 24 hours before returning to school. A negative covid test is required for return to school after illness. We are now able to accept the results of rapid home tests, which should help with ease of testing. Thank you for working together to keep all of the kids in our district safe and healthy!
