Dred Scott Biography

Dred Scott was born into slavery around 1795. He became famous when he tried to get a legal battle for his freedom, when it was passed but then overturned by the supreme court. That led to Abraham Lincoln.

The Supreme Court Case

The Supreme Court Case states that no African American, free or slave could become an American citizen and couldn't sue in a court case. After being taken by his owner to free states, Dred Scott tried to sue for his freedom but he was denied by the court. After this, abolitionists were mad. This ruling was denied after the Civil Rights Act that allowed African Americans to become American citizens.
