What is Wind?
Local Winds
Local winds are winds that blow over short distances. Have you ever heard of a sea and land breeze? well those are both local winds, because they both blow over a short distance. Local winds often happen at the beach. Local winds are created when large-scale winds are very weak. A land breeze blows over land, coming from the ocean. These happen at night. A sea breeze is the exact opposite. These blow over the sea, coming to the land, and occur during the day.
Global Winds
Global winds form when warm air rises near the equator. Global winds are different from local winds because local winds blow over short distances, but global winds blow over long distances. These are also named by which direction they blow. The three examples are the Polar Easterlies, the Prevailing Westerlies, and the Trade Winds. The diagram below will show what they are.
