Dear Families,
It was so nice to see so many of you at our Back to School Night. It really is special when our community comes together to support our students in their learning, and every time we do, I'm reminded again just how special Manning is-- because of you and your amazing kids.
As always, thank you for sharing them with us; it is our honor to serve them.

Message from the PTA
Happy Friday Manning families!
Our mission as the Manning PTA is to support the excellent teaching we are so fortunate to have by providing funds both for educational needs in the classrooms and to support our teachers and staff with occasional meals during their busiest weeks. The primary ways we earn money for these is through our beginning of the year parent contributions and Fall Fest, a fun evening for parents with a chili cookoff and silent auction.
Instead of doing fundraisers (we know that you likely have many), the Manning PTA asks each family to donate $100 each year. Donations can be made at manningpta.org/donate/. We are genuinely grateful for any amount. Thank you to those families who have already contributed generously!
In addition to financial support, we are seeking a few volunteers to help with the following activities:
- Teacher Appreciation Week (in May)
- Battle of the Books (late winter)
- 8th grade picnic
- Continuation
If you are interested in helping or have any questions, please email us at manningmiddlepta@gmail.com.

Europe Trip 2020
All current 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are invited to participate in an educational tour of London, Paris, and Rome in the summer of 2020. Over 9 powerful, impactful days in the summer of 2020, Manning students will have the chance to bring their classrooms to life. They will experience the sights, sounds, tastes, languages (or interesting accents), and cultures of these iconic European cities. Through it all, our multi-lingual Tour Director will be with us, supporting our students’ learning and highlighting each breakthrough moment. Students who partake in this opportunity will grow their social skills, connect to their studies outside of the classroom, and set themselves apart when applying to college and their future careers. In addition, high school course credit is available for current 6th and 7th graders, and college course credit is also available for current 7th graders.
We can’t wait to see our Manning students…
● Engage with a world beyond their classrooms and local community.
● Step outside of their comfort zones and experience new foods, cultures, and people.
● Receive an experience that will help them stand out on college or job applications.
● Learn to navigate new situations with confidence and maturity, and appreciate the differences and commonalities of others.
● Experience a life changing journey.

HONESTY
Whenever I ask a question to Levi Smith, he always responds honestly.
Cate Towle always listens and when she talks, it is never a lie.
EFFORT
Ivy struggled with her locker the first couple days of school. Even when she couldn't open it, she never gave up and kept trying. Because of this, she now gets through the day without any locker problems. She showed effort to get her locker open, and it paid off!
Ruby Lucken and Aevry Green helped unstack chairs before HEART Class. Our teacher didn't even ask them. Everyone else was sitting down, but they unstacked every chair for their peers. Thanks for contributing full effort!
During business Dylan went first on the project the whole class had to do. And showed a good role model and example for the people next up.
Izzy worked really hard on her essay in ELA and she got her essay done early on the weekend so she could have fun with her friends and then once we started editing she worked hard to get it done early and turn it in.
Mr. Jonson is a great teacher who puts effort into all of his lessons. He helps build life skills through business and through design thinking. Thank you Mr. Jonson!
Levi Smith stayed with me for about 2 minutes to open my locker with me, the locker was really stuck so he really helped me open it and he as almost was late for class.
I nominated Mrs.Austin for making art fun interesting and productive.
Mrs. McLeod is always trying to encourage students to try moving towards their goals, and she works so hard. She is my HEART teacher and my ELA teacher, so I think she deserves a nomination.
I nominate Mr. Molinare because his way of teaching people made me love his class the most. He is also funny and puts a lot of work into his job.
Charlie always tries, even when there is little chance for success. He is always welcoming to everyone and he has been to me since first grade.
Eliza Earle is always on top of her work in Language Arts; she smiles everyday and participates all the time. She's a great role model for other students!
Gavin Archer is a wonderful advocate for himself. He is kind and hardworking in class and he respects his classmates.
Lucy Klem is great at participating and getting her work done! She puts in her best effort and is able to demonstrate that she understands the learning target(s).
Mr. Johnson went out of his way to offer a quick tutorial on using some of the features of the interactive TVs for those of us who are new to them. He recognized some of us had this need and jumped in and helped out!
Every day Cora Larson has a smile on her face and is kind to everyone. Such as in lunch she included a kid who was alone at the end of the table. She is always getting along with everyone and making us all laugh.
Addy Joy has always tried with school, helped me with school, been a great/ inclusive friend and I am so glad she is in my life.
Though I don't have her for anything this year, I am still going to nominate Ms. K for effort. She always waves and smiles at me during passing periods(which I gladly return), showing that she puts effort into making my day(and probably everyone else's day) much better. But she also puts effort into our learning as well. Giving up a planning period for an elective is hard, and she makes it look effortless(though I am sure it is not). Her joyful attitude and personality made Creative Writing my favorite class last semester. And to make this such a good class requires effort. Ms. K puts a lot of effort into what she does, and by doing this, she has made my days at Manning much better.
Mr. Hageman puts so much effort into his students each and every day. He greets the day with positively and helps students do the same. You can tell he loves his job and cares for each student. When I am in ELA I never wish I was in another class. Thank you Mr Hageman for being you.
I wish I could nominate each and everyone of you by name, but unfortunately I can't. I want to tell you that you are doing one of the hardest things you will ever do in your life and handling it with grace. I proud of each of you. This is hard, I know but you are getting through it one step at a time. Everyone at Manning is always willing to help you and we are here for you. Do your best and enjoy it even it feels like the most enjoyable thing imaginable, you will miss it. Good job 6th grade!
Maizy Hoffman puts her best effort into everything, trying her best to understand what she is being asked to do and to help everyone else be kind and succeed in all that they do.
Mrs. Jacobs is always prepared to teach her class. No matter what, she is always committed to her students. I enjoy going into her classroom everyday. Thank you Ms Jacobs for your effort.
Quinn Hosley knew he was going to be absent Friday. He came into tutor time to complete the lab BEFORE he was absent, so he wouldn't get behind.
Sofia Spatola was absent. She asked the teacher for materials, did work outside of class, and came to tutor time to make sure she made up what she needed to.
Margaux Dempsy is a hard-working student and a great friend. She is in NJHS, student council, and several other extra-curriculars. She always knows how to help when me and my friends are stuck on a math problem or another class assignment.
Jacob Dehm and Trey Fry put a lot of hard work into their story telling presentation and it really showed. They seemed very professional when presenting.
ACHIEVEMENT
I nominated Mrs. Templeton because she is always working, even on weekends, and she runs a whole school, so to me, she is someone who deserves a nomination.
Vera helped me and Sophie Kurtz with our homework Thursday to make sure that we understood it and got a good grade on our homework without giving us the answers.
As the president of the student council, Maddie Weiser shows a lot of characteristics that caused me to nominate her for achievement. First, she is kind and friendly to everyone. As I watch her lead the student council, people don't look at her as the person in charge, but as a friend with a lot of leadership skills. She makes me feel more a part of the student council and our school. And I am sure I am not the only one. For that and so much more, she deserves the achievement nomination.
Ms Agard does such a great job running STUCO and keeping us in line. We would not be able to do anything we do without you. Ms Agard puts up with us and somehow gets us to give a worth while product. I would say that's a pretty big achievement.
Sergio went above and beyond in class by adding a whole page of his own notes in his own words without being asking. Way to own your learning Sergio.
RESPECT
If I don't know what I need to do or I'm confused, Sophie Kurtz will always willingly help me.
Vince Novello is always there to throw a football, or share a water bottle, introduce me to new people.
When I had no one to sit with, Drew Miller came to sit with me.
Annabelle Tapp is always nice, she greets her classmates and people in the hallway and is always caring.
Devlin Logan is knew school but is not shy and she talks to us and is very nice.
I nominate Gavin King for Respect because he has made me feel more comfortable about Manning. I had no friends from elementary school and I was very nevus about coming here. He made me feel better and now I have many good friends because of him.
Theresa Lamb helped me when I dropped my stuff and they always wait for me at my locker at the end of the day.
Maya Marfil-Smith is super accepting of everyone and if someone is viewed as "different" or "wrong", or even if people need help, she's right there to give support to that person, or even a group of people. She is really awesome by doing this especially when a lot of people, especially now, can easily be judged or rejected online or in real life.
Rio Crabtree helped me when I missed math she explained what we did and what the homework was. It lifted a lot of weight off my shoulders!!
When Avery Garvin saw someone drop their ruler, she immediately picked it up to get it back to them. This represents respect because when she saw the ruler fall, she could have just left the ruler laying there, but she decided to help and pick it up anyway.
Ava Canella is always really nice and makes sure that everyone in our friend group is happy
My friend had realized he forgot a fork, and didn't want to go and get one from the cafeteria, so Blake immediately went to go get him a fork.
Blake Hoffer is always super kind and very respectful, and he was a really good friend. Thanks Blake!
TEAMWORK
Adam Baker always waits for me at my locker and always is there to catch my passes.
I nominate Adam Kula because he helped me find where my classes were throughout the first few days.
I nominated Bella Delisia because when everything fell out of my locker Bella stopped even though she was in a rush and helped me organize my locker again.
Every single day when I have to open my locker Mrs. Putnam always helps me open it. I don't even have to ask her any more. Now I can always get to class on time.
I nominate Murphy Shanley for helping me find my lunch box at recess in the huge crowd of people.
Everyday I'm always a little late for recess because I have to get my locker sorted. But everyday Anna McCormick and Cora Vladika are always waiting for me in the same spot. They make me feel much less left out when I'm the last one there.
While we were MAP testing, a student was struggling with her stuffy nose. Aubrey Magid got up and got her a box of tissues so that she could continue to concentrate on her MAP test. Thanks for being a team player, Aubrey!
Justin Fulton noticed that my schedule was wrong when I was teaching. Instead of just pulling up the new schedule for me, he changed my schedule on the board. What a great teammate!
Lilly Baillie jumped right in after I decided that I wasn't comfortable presenting to the class in Leadership! Immediately, after I decided I didn't want to present, Lilly was on it, she took my place and we did great! Thanks Lilly!
Joseph helped me when I did not know a few notes in band like F sharp or C sharp. He is now my very a great friend to me.
Maisie Jaworsky has been a patient and strong leader of her table group. Her leadership is helping her whole group be successful.
Dylan Patterson is always doing what he is supposed to do. Also he is always prepared bringing what he needs to class to make sure he doesn't lose any participation points.
Ms. Pouliot is one of the faces that greets the manning students in the morning. She provides a smile for each student and greets them with pleasure. I always have a better day when I get to see her smiling at everyone. It reminds me that if she can put a smile on and greet every student at manning, I can do the same for my first period class. Your kindness is a chain reaction Ms Pouliot. Thank you.
Jasmine Chang is the nicest person in the world to anyone and everyone. I love being around her. She is easy to talk to and is accepting of everyone. She is smart, beautiful, and encouraging and I feel lucky to be her friend everyday.
Ever since I moved to Colorado in 3rd grade, Avery Schuster and Erin Gallagher have been my two best friends. Since that day they decided to play with the lonely ole new girl on the playground, we have been an inseparable team. For the moments they have helped me with my assignments, made me laugh or just those random weird conversations we have at lunch, I am very grateful for. These things all take a lot of teamwork to keep the friendship going, and I think they demonstrate these things very well. Without both of them, I don't know who or where I would be. But, I know for a fact that I want them to stay my friends forever.
Sophie Wong was so amazing to me when I needed someone to help proof-read my essay. She is an amazing writer and so helpful and kind to me everyday. Thanks Soph!
When I didn't know where to go for cross country, Blake Hoffer offered to walk with me since he was on the team. Ever since, he's been encouraging not only me but the rest of the cross country team with a positive attitude every practice. He's an incredible team player and a great friend.
