3rd Grade's January Newsletter

Happy New Year! It sure is getting chilly outside. With that being said we need to remember to bring our coats to school each day because we go outside for recess. If the temperature or “feels like” temperature is below 32 degrees students will have indoor recess. Students should continue to bring a sweatshirt or sweater for the classroom as the temperature in our classrooms can vary. Please remember to send your child with a water bottle each day.

Currently, we are learning about fractions. We have partitioned shapes equally, placed fractions on number lines, and will be comparing fractions.

Our next unit is Survival of the Fittest. We will be looking at animal adaptations and how these help them survive.

English Language Arts (ELA)

This month we will continue to read informational texts. Students will be working on finding the main idea and supporting details as well answering text dependent questions. For writing we will continue to work on writing a paragraph which contains a topic sentence, detail sentences, and a concluding sentence. Our current word study unit is on the suffix -s and -es.
