Fryelands Falcon Flyer
May 14, 2020
From the Principal
Dear Fryelands Families,
This is the end of Week 8 of the school closure, with 5 weeks to go. As we head into the final five weeks, I wanted to remind everyone that we are not done with school yet! Please continue your distance learning school routines with your child. We will be teaching until June 19th and we need your help in maintaining your child’s practice of reading, writing, and math at home. Thanks for your continued support with this. Your partnership in educating our children during this time has been amazing. Thank You!!!
Virtual Book Fair May 11-24
We hope you join us online for our Virtual Book Fair event. When you sign up for ordering books, a portion of the sales will go towards purchasing books for our library collection.

Attendance/Student Engagement
We are keeping track of “student engagement” on a week by week basis. Here are the ways students can engage each week.
Attending Zoom meetings. Zoom meetings may be whole class or in small groups.
Attend Zoom Office Hours. Office hours are optional, but they are a great way for students/parents to get specific answers to help with learning.
Canvas work. Students can also submit their work in Canvas to share with the teacher. Teachers can give feedback in Canvas or through Zoom or email.
iReady participation. Students should be trying to have 30-49 minutes of practice in Reading and 30-49 minutes of practice in Math each week in iReady.
Fryelands Continuous Learning Standards through June 2020
Please see the Fryelands Continuous Learning Standards document below. These are the K-5 learning standards in reading, writing, and math that we will be learning in our school through June 19th. This is what we want students to know and be able to show us during this distance learning time.Returning Books to School
Please drop off books at lunch time, 11:30-1:30, each day.
We will have a cart for all returned books.
We would like families to put a note card with the student's first and last name on it (and teacher name) so we can get them back to the right place.

Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten registration for the 2020-21 school year is available online!
If you have a child who will be 5 years old by August 31, 2020, please register for kindergarten now! In order to appropriately staff our kindergarten classes for next year, we need incoming kindergarten students to enroll as soon as possible.
We know that many families are having difficulties obtaining immunization records during this difficult time, so if you are not able to register online at this time due to that, please call your local school and let them know you plan to register your child for next year. We also have paper packets available for pick-up in front of the school between the hours of 11:30am-1:30pm.

HAPPY READING!!
Parent Input Form
A Parent Input Form for next school year is attached to the newsletter and is due Thursday, May 21st. If you have specific comments regarding your child’s placement for next year, please fill out the form we have included with this newsletter. We will also have paper copies available during lunch pick-up if you need them. You may email completed forms to the school at bacaj@monroe.wednet.edu or drop them off during lunch pick-up. The staff and I value parent input, but please note that we are not able to accommodate your request for a specific teacher. Please do not write a teacher’s name on your input form. Your child’s current teacher, along with our school team, will balance next year’s classes by gender, abilities, behaviors, and many other factors.
Have you purchased a yearbook?
Yearbooks are still available! If you would like to pre-order a yearbook to guarantee that you get one, please go to www.ybpay.lifetouch.com and enter in our Yearbook ID code: 11206920.
Any extra books will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis once we receive them in June.

Fryelands Farm? We have been loving all the animal visitors at lunch! =)
Congratulations Seniors!
Lunches
Lunches continue to be available to pick-up from every elementary school (M-F) from 11:30 - 1:30. This is for ALL children ages 0 - 18. You can stay in your car and just drive up or if you want to get out and take a nice walk - come to Fryelands and get your needed lunches. This is free of charge for EVERYONE - and there is no registration needed. Think of this as a way to take something off your plate. If not having to make lunch for the children will help you out, then please take advantage of these lunches. We love seeing all the kids, so it is good for us too when you choose to come for lunch! If you are unable to get to Fryelands, Monroe School District is also providing lunch deliveries at several bus stop locations. See district website for locations.
Free and Reduced Lunch Form/Reduced Internet Rates
As our families adjust to the temporary "new normal" and the district is handing out chromebooks for remote learning, we want to make sure you were aware that families who qualify for Free and Reduced meals can get discounted internet rates from some carriers.
If you have already qualified for free and/or reduced lunch but need your confirmation letter, please email Tammy Gregory (gregoryt@monroe.wednet.edu) and she will send you a letter via email. If you don't have email you can call Tammy Gregory at the district office (360-804-2510) and leave a message and she will mail you a copy. She will need the students' full name in the message.
Many of our families income has been drastically reduced during this pandemic. If this is true for you, you can complete the Free/Reduced application at any time during the school year. We have attached the forms if you need them. Parents can return them to the school, leave them in the drop box at the district office, mail them to the district office or email them to gregoryt@monroe.wednet.edu.
Another benefit for families is their qualification will carry over for the first month of school which will help as families get back on their feet. Please let us know if we can help you in any way!
