Mrs. Walters' News

Dear Bushnell Elementary Families,

What a beautiful, sunny Friday!

This week will be the last week of our hybrid return to school model. Next Monday all of our hybrid model students (red/white groups) will return to school all 5 days, in person. Virtual students will continue virtually until the end of the trimester. In general, we have been very successful with the start of the school year. I continue to be amazed at the resilience of our little ones, as well as the families who are navigating all of this!

School picture days went smoothly! The kids looked really spiffy! Every student got their picture taken this week. The information on how to order pictures is below and can be accessed throughout the weekend if you haven't ordered quite yet.

In the next week, we will finish up our Acadience Reading Testing which measures early literacy skills including letter naming, letter sounds, and blending. We use this test to help determine which students need more specific support in reading. MAP testing will begin in the next few weeks as well and will help give us a baseline of academic ability and areas that need growth in reading and math. You will be hearing a lot more about this as we gather the data and sift through the trends we are seeing.

Today is an important day in our nation's history as we remember and reflect on the events of September 11th , 2001. Take a moment to remember the victims and survivors, as well as the first responders and volunteers who risked their lives to save others.

Finally, did you know that ALL school breakfasts and lunches are free to students until December 31, 2020! We are extremely excited to announce that the USDA has extended a federal waiver allowing all students to receive school breakfast and lunch completely free of charge through Dec. 31, 2020, or until federal funds are exhausted. We strongly encourage all of our students to take advantage of this program!
