Food 4 Souls Donation Drive & Random Acts of Kindness!

February 17th was Random Acts of Kindness Day. We celebrated this week by writing letters and notes to past teachers, friends, and family to remind them of how much they mean to us! We are also celebrating this special day by continuing to collect donations for Food 4 Souls ( One of our amazing second grade student's parents help to run this organization. Food 4 Souls helps to gather items for the homeless among many other things! Starting Monday, we will be collecting men's insulated gloves, coats, hooded sweatshirts, blankets, batteries (AAA and D batteries are needed the most), men's thermals, flashlights, lanterns, tents, sleeping bags, and more. Your child is welcome to bring these items in (new or used) through Monday, February 29th. We thank you for your support!!

Adventures with Steve and Mocha!!

This week, we had the opportunity to host Steve and Mocha our school pet rabbits! The kids really enjoyed having them! We read many books on rabbits and learned lots of new facts about them! We also took turns taking care of them by feeding, watering, and giving them treats each day!!

Digital Learning Day!

Digital Learning Day was Wednesday, February 17th which is what HSE21 is ALL about. It's not about the iPads, but using them as tools to enhance and amplify our students' learning! We had so much fun while using our devices! We checked out some new apps. ChatterPix and Padlet were a few of their favorite! We also did some coding, practiced our word work (spelling words) on the IPADS and even wrote some stories all while using our devices!!! SO MUCH FUN!!!

Read Across America Day!!

Wednesday, March 2nd is Read Across America Day! We will use this day to celebrate our love for reading! I'd love to have any parents in to read to our class that can make it! If this is something you are interested in participating in, please email me with a preferred time for that day. Then I'll see what I can work out! This day I also invite students to bring in any books from home that they might enjoy reading. A reading buddy is fine as well, as long as it fits in your child's back pack! Looking forward to spending the day reading!

We are Learning...

We will continue our study of nonfiction texts. We will be learning how to gather information from informational texts so that we can become experts on a topic. We will focus on various nonfiction features and study them in more detail.

We will continue our topic on place value to 1,000. We will be using words, models, standard form and expanded form to represent numbers to 1,000. We will also be using our understanding of the hundreds, tens, and ones digits to compare two three-digit numbers.

We will continue our unit on nonfiction writing texts. Students will continue to research, gather, and write down information to help them write their nonfiction books.

We will begin learning about lifecycles! We will learn what a cycle is, and identify cycles that occur everyday!
