Runyan News; School Closure Edition
April 9, 2020
Runyan Elementary Mission
At Runyan Elementary, we are a safe and welcoming community dedicated to student-focused learning driven by high expectations for all.
General Information
This is certainly a new situation for all of us, but what hasn't changed is our commitment to your child's success. We're here to help, so please let us know how we can support you!
If you need answers to general questions, you may email contactrunyan@conroeisd.net or call 936-709-2800 between the hours of 8:00-3:00, Monday-Friday.
Food Resources
We know this is a difficult time, and while our children are not able to attend school we don't want our families worrying about food. Just a reminder there is curbside food pickup at Austin Elementary, Conroe High School, Washington Junior High School, and Hauke Alternative School each Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
If you need additional assistance with food, please use the following link from the Montgomery County Food Bank to find a local food pantry. You can find that information at: https://mcfoodbank.org/find-a-food-pantry-partner-agencies-conroe-tx/
Another resource is 211. You can call to be connected with local resources, or you can go online at: https://www.211texas.org/
We are continuing to work, and as more resources and information become available we will send them out.
Learning at Home -- Instructional Resources
The online instructional materials for the week of April 13-17 will be available by 9:00 AM on Monday, April 13th. You may access the digital lessons using the link below. (Next week's instructional plans will not appear until Monday morning. Prior to that, you'll continue to see the current week's plans.)
Since our county is under a Stay Home order, we have been asked to limit the time we're inviting families to leave their homes. Therefore, paper instructional materials will only be available on the Runyan bus ramp from 10:00AM - 7:00PM on Tuesday, April 14th. This will be a self-serve situation -- while maintaining social distancing, parents may drive up, retrieve the materials they need, and drive away. There will not be Runyan staff on duty to assist this process for most of the day.
As students engage in these learning opportunities, please reach out to your teacher through email or through whatever means s/he has set up for communication. Teachers want to answer your questions, hear how your child is progressing as a learner, help you problem-solve, and generally stay involved in your child's life! At some point we'll all return to school, and we want to be ready for the academic challenges that await!
Please keep your child's school work all together. We have begun collecting assignments. Teachers will contact you to let you know how to submit your child's work. Some of next week's work will be graded by your teacher, and a corresponding grade will be entered in the grade book. Do not let yourself or your child become concerned about grades during the school closure. While it is important for students to do their best on each learning opportunity, we will not allow grades to negatively impact any child during the school closure.

Remote School Counseling Services
Message to Families of Students Receiving 504 Services
Dear Runyan Families,
I hope you all are continuing to stay safe and healthy. I want to let you know that teachers are providing 504 accommodation services for each of their students. Services range from online virtual instruction, instruction via telephone calls, other curriculum based instructional activities, or any combination of these strategies.
Please do not hesitate to call and let us know if you need assistance with the home learning.
Be on the lookout for a call, Remind text, or email throughout the school closure to better the experience of distance learning. You may share concerns or ideas when the teachers reach out.
If you had a 504 meeting that did not take place due to the school closure, be aware I will be sending an email or calling to reschedule for a video or phone meeting. I will be emailing or calling you soon with a date and time to hold the meeting.
In regard to evaluations, for the health and safety of the students and staff, we will not be providing direct services (including assessments) to students in a face to face environment until further notice. We will review this periodically and communicate any changes. Therefore, evaluations we will resume as soon as staff and students physically return to school.
Thank you for allowing us to help your student,
Ilynn Marinero

Message to Families of Students Receiving Special Education Resource Support
Hello to our Runyan Families,
We hope you all are staying safe and healthy. We want you to know that you are on our minds during this crazy time. We wanted to reach out to open the line of communication. Conroe ISD remote learning plans are scheduled to begin at the beginning of next week. In the upcoming weeks, we will be making every effort to help our students continue to grow and learn from home. Please bare with us as we are learning with you on what exactly that will look like. At any time, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or ideas you have. This is going to be a journey that we will need to navigate together, and as a team we are confident that we can get through this.
Please know that when services return to the classroom setting, ARD Committees can meet to determine if plans need to be revised as a result of being out of school during this time.
We will continue to connect with you through Remind and email. Please be on the lookout for a Remind Invitation on your cell phone or email. Please accept the Remind invitation as soon as possible, so we can continue to inform you about lesson plans, data collection, and student individualized instruction going forward. We will also be using these outlets to send and receive student work in order to monitor your student’s progress in the coming weeks and adjust our instruction if needed.
We wish you all the best. Please feel free to send us pictures and videos through Remind and email. We will be checking both regularly, and we look forward to seeing all the fun and exciting things taking place at home.
