The Forest is Alive!
With the spring peepers raising a racket, we’ve set out to explore the wetland they’re in, right
next to the pavilion. Students have identified five frog species by isolating their voices and
comparing them to a website describing Wisconsin frogs including audio. They also discovered
frog eggs and a painted turtle. For the rest of spring, they will observe the swamp for changes in
animal and aquatic life, much like the shearing area, to document changes. Mr. Augustine and
Mrs. Zwicke would like to create a database with years of observations of Tracy Lake changes.
Arbor Day with the Fourth Grade
On April 30, Class ACT will host the fourth graders at Tracy Lake, where the elementary kids will learn about habitat development and proper planting of tree seedlings from the high schoolers. After the morning’s forestry lessons, we’ll treat the crew to a picnic lunch.
