McClatchey Messenger For Families
January 8, 2021
We are thrilled to be back after our Winter Break. On Monday, we met as a DME team. We reflected on how 2020 may have changed our pace and routine, but how the year also revealed new priorities. We also listed words that energized us! Then, we shared moments or circumstances that from this past year energized us and how we can consciously build these components into our everyday as move forward in 2021.
This time together gave us an opportunity to recall great moments that fueled us. It was enriching to stop the roller coaster, take a deep breath, reflect on the growth that has occurred and how we can carry more of these moments forward.
We have filled our "buckets"! The voices, the pitter-patter, the faces, the energy are all noises that have filled our "building" this week, whether face-to-face or virtual! These sounds will carry us through to achieve and move forward in 2021!
Wishing you much happiness in this coming year.
Sincerely,
Stacy Germany
Weather Update
MISD is aware that inclement weather may occur in our area on Sunday, January 10 with possible snow and freezing temperatures holding through the morning of Monday, January 11. We will continue to monitor the weather closely throughout the weekend. Our first priority when making weather-related decisions is always the safety of our 9,800+ students and 1,100+ teachers and staff in our 112-square mile district community.
The communications team will keep you informed throughout the weekend. Any decision regarding school closure will happen no later than 5:15 a.m. Parents and staff will be notified if there is a school cancellation or delay, otherwise, the district and all campuses will operate as normal. Due to state regulations, asynchronous virtual learning cannot be an option for inclement weather days.
In the event of delays, cancellations or closures, the MISD Communications Department will notify you by:
- Social Media - Twitter and Facebook
- MISD Website
- Recorded phone message
- News - WFAA8, NBC5, CBS11, FOX4
- MISD and campus websites
Thank you in advance for your partnership in staying informed and keeping the safety of our MISD family top of mind.
Thank You to our MISD School Board for guiding us towards EXCELLENCE!
Virtual Career Day
Dear McClatchey Families,
Career Day is around the corner! It will look a little different this year, but we are thrilled about the opportunities a virtual platform provides for our presenters and students. This event will introduce students to a variety of careers from a professional in that field. We are seeking professionals to volunteer their time and knowledge to prepare a video for our students. Each speaker will create a 6-8 minute video. Ideally, we would like to have a variety of different videos to expose our students to a portion of the limitless career possibilities available to them. If you think sharing about your career sounds like something you would like to do, then we would love to have you be one of our speakers. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the futures of our students. Our vision is to create a database of familiar faces for our students and teachers to access on Career Day.
If you are interested in being a speaker at Career Day, please contact me at nikki.moon@misd.gs . I would love to send you more information about creating a video for our students. Thank you for your consideration to participate in this great opportunity for our students. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Nikki Moon
School Counselor
McClatchey Elementary
Attention 5th grade students and parents!
Course selection is now open for 6th grade. Middle school counselors have visited each elementary campus and your student has a course selection sheet. Please take some time to talk with your student about courses of interest for the 21-22 school year. While students and parents are not able to visit the middle school campuses at this time, you may find this document helpful for information and resources pertaining to course selection, including contact information of each middle school counselor. This is an exciting time for your student and our middle school administrative teams are available to answer any questions you may have.
