6th Grade: Youth Entrepreneurs
Bringing Business Studies to Life *Nurture *Inspire *Empower
Discover U + Youth Entrepreneur in 6th Grade
We believe education is about nurturing, inspiring and empowering our students through hands-on learning and a challenging curriculum. We want all of our students to walk away from Discover U feeling ready for middle school and their future. In 6th grade we will be doing this in a FANTASTIC way! We have partnered with Youth Entrepreneurs to bring our students a one of a kind learning experience where they develop the seven key principles of an entrepreneur.
With Youth Entrepreneurs, we will "focus on the application of an idea – an idea students can own. Our curriculum brings business studies to life through experiential learning, executed in real, market-based scenarios. We introduce economic thinking and strive to instill the moral character necessary for our youth to lead lives as thriving, productive citizens" (https://youthentrepreneurs.org/our-program/the-classroom).

Mr. Pitera is Most Excited About...
- Market Days!! Students will design their own business and sell merchandise two times a year. Students earn real money and get a true feel for what it is like to be an entrepreneur.
- Auctions!! In our classroom students will earn Explorer Bucks for the work they produce. We will have our own economic system in place. Youth Entrepreneurs provides me with a monthly budget to buy items the students are interested in for the auction. Some examples of auction items are: fidget spinners, books, games, a bike, a tablet and more. The cool thing is, the kids help brainstorm the items for the class auction. This will give students a true feeling of earning money and using it to buy items that they want.
- Project Based & STEM!! The lessons that teach the 7 key principles of being an entrepreneur are taught through hands on experiences that include project based learning and STEM. These lessons are highly engaging and apply to the real world.
- Our students will walk away with business skills and great memories that will help them be successful in their future.
