Should College Athletes Be Paid?
Phisher Phillips
They should not be paid.
First of all, not all schools could pay their athletes, so it would influence athletes to go to a different school that gives them money. Overall, it would affect the recruiting system in the NCAA. No one is forcing these athletes to play the sport, they are doing it voluntarily. So why should the athletes be paid for participation?
Another reason they should not be paid is...
Even for the schools that do have money, not all sports at that school could afford to pay their athletes. For example, Arkansas football’s head coach in 2009, Bobby Petrino, was paid $2,858,000 that year. While the Arkansas golf coach was paid $130,000 that year. Obviously, there is little money put into Arkansas golf so it would be hard for the golf athletes to be paid.
