SSMS Weekly Update

November 12, 2021

Dear SSMS Families,

It has been another very busy week at SSMS. Our 6th grade class explored Pedernales Falls, basketball season started off, and our theater Department is presenting Matilda, Jr. The show will go on at 7 p.m tonight and tomorrow night. We have one week of school and then a week off for the Thanksgiving Break. The second quarter is flying by and before you know it we will be doing Fall Exams. If you haven't yet seen the exam schedule you can find it here. Have a great weekend and Go Tigers!

Counselor's Corner

Hello Everyone!!

We are in full swing in the counseling department now. We have completed the 7th grader explorer and next week we will be going into the 6th grade social studies class to talk about ways to overcome adversity. This lesson has a couple of film clips followed by an opportunity to reflect on how we have used our strengths and resources to overcome our challenges.

Our Tiger Leader Team has designed their first lesson for our Better Together activities and will be going into Tiger Win time the week following December 5th to present the activity called “Individually we Sparkle but Together we Shine!!” to all of the Tiger Win Classes. We are so excited about the hard work of these amazing leaders and two of them will be presenting all their hard work to the board at a workshop on Monday 11/15/2021

We will be opening up some additional spaces for Tiger Leaders by adding a 6th grade Tiger Leader class. We are working on the applications and should have them out by next week.

In the Lead program students are working on setting Wildly Important Goals. They started this process last week and will be continuing to work on it through the first of the new year.

As always we are here to help!!

Team Sycamore Update!

Team Sycamore is a student-led group fundraising and walking to raise awareness and end type 1 diabetes (T1D). As a team, we know that there is no way to prevent T1D and there is no cure yet, but we are hopeful that through awareness and research a cure can be found to change the lives of our classmates, staff, family and friends living with T1D.

A big thank you to everyone who has supported us, we've made a lot of progress; however there is still time for us to reach our goals. Currently, Team Sycamore is FIRST (out of 91 teams) in the greater Austin area for miles walked! We've walked over 125 miles (and counting) for JDRF! That's almost 5 marathons! We still have time to walk, so need your help by joining our team and logging your miles!

In terms of fundraising, Team Sycamore is excited to have reached a big milestone. We have currently raised 50% of our $5,000 goal which puts us as the TWENTY-FIRST team in the greater Austin area in terms of fundraising. We are SO close to the top 20 and know with your support we can get there. Please take a moment to consider the impact your donation can make and show your support by donating to our team.

At SSMS, we strive to look beyond ourselves and know that together we have the power to make a difference. If you would like to support Team Sycamore reach our goals, please use the link below to visit our webpage where you can make a donation, join the team, log miles walked or check out our progress!

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions regarding Team Sycamore, please reach out to Mrs. McGilvray, SSMS NJHS adviser.

We are so excited to be sharing this opportunity with our students again this year! Because of the travel restrictions of the last couple of years, we are opening the trip to all 7th AND 8th graders. After this year, however, only 7th grade students will be invited to attend.

Here are Frequently Asked Questions about the trip - if you would like to sign up, there is a link at the bottom of the FAQ document. Your enrollment coupon will be sent home with your child beginning next week.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to or
