  • Special cells that are whip like structures that beat rapidly to pump water through its body

  • jelly-like layer carry food and make “skeleton” of a sponge

  • skeleton made up tough protein called spicules

  • 5000 species that come in all different colors, shapes, and sizes

  • reproduce sexually and asexually
