Mr. Anderson's Message
We continue to study and practice gratitude. I have some gratitude of my own, I'd like to share. I am thankful for all of the parents here at TLA and your dedication to the success of our scholars and school. I know it is getting close to the end of the school year but we need to make sure our scholars are still finishing their homework every night so they can continue to reach their full potential. We have noticed an increase in scholars not turning in homework. Once again THANK YOU for all you do!!!

Education Visit to Blackhawk Technical College
This month we are learning about and exploring education careers. A group of scholars interested in teaching attended a field trip to Blackhawk Technical College's Early Childhood Program. Scholars learned about the program and also completed a brain building activity.
Job Shadows
Sophomores continued to job shadow out in the community this week. This week scholars job shadowed at the police department, a dentist, and the cosmetology school. Thank you to our community partners for investing their time in scholar career exploration.
Work Permits
The Department of Workforce Development's Equal Rights Division (DWD) has developed a new online work permit application tool. The Division decided to pursue an online application that would be available to the parents of minors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any computer, tablet, smartphone, or similar device. The application is live now. A parent can access the site using these instructions once a scholar has a job offer from an employer. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card, or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, the DWD mails a paper copy of the permit directly to the employer. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Benisch, Director of Career Planning and Partnerships, at 608-690-5100.
Below are the requirements for the employment of minors.
- A work permit is required before anyone under the age of 16 is allowed to work in any job with the exception of agriculture or domestic service work.
- Employers must have a work permit on file for the minor being employed before they may allow the minor to begin work.
- 16- and 17-year-old minors do NOT need to obtain a work permit prior to beginning work.
1st Grade Community Scavenger Hunt
First graders participated in a community scavenger hunt. Scholars were given a clue that lead them to a local business. Scholars visited the Associated Bank, Beloit Public Library, and Community Health. Scholars also counted fire hydrants and dropped a special card in the Blue Mailbox. Thank you to our Eclipse partners for participating.
Service Learning
Middle School Citizenship and Service went to Welty Environmental this week to volunteer. As a team they pulled at least 15 pounds of garlic mustard! We love serving in our community and giving back to our partners.
Middle and high school scholars are required to complete service learning. Scholars in middle school need a total of 10 hours before the end of 8th grade (6 hours for 8th graders this year due to scholars only being here two years) and an additional 30 hours before the end of 12th grade completed during high school. Scholars who have completed service learning this hour should complete the Service Learning Form and turn it into the office.
Vets Roll Flags
AP World History scholars helped place 1000 American flags along Riverside Drive this week.
Attendance
Congratulations to our monthly attendance winners! In April, we had 291 scholars with 95% or higher attendance for the month. Let’s see if we can surpass that number for May!
