Sea Dragon Literacy Lab Update
February 2024
Ms. Hall's Corner
Hello Lin. Howe Families,
Welcome to trimester two! I am SO excited to be back with the kids working on all things reading. We have several groups going on at all grade levels which is super exciting. This trimester we are working with many different curriculums to support the various needs of our students. This newsletter will highlight the current standards we are working on along with work samples, teacher news and parent resources for all.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or comments you might have.
Happy Reading!
Ms. Hall
Intervention Classes: Grades TK-2
TK/Kinder
Grade 2
Students are loving their decodable Geodes texts to practice their fluency and comprehension skills related to Fundations.
Grade 2
A second grade group previewing text before they read their Geodes story!
Intervention Classes: Grades 3-5
Grade 3
Some third grade students are using the Orton Gillingham strategies through the IMSE curriculum to target phonics skills. Dictation, decodable readers and a multi-sensory approach are key here.
Grade 4
Grade 5
Fifth grade groups are working on the comprehension skill of inferencing. We are using example texts from the state CAASPP exam and creating skill specific questions to help students develop this skill using text they will see on their exams.
Meet Mrs. Cynthia V.
Mrs. Cynthia is one of Lin. Howe's fabulous instructional aides. She has been with the school for over two years now, and is a huge support to all grade levels. Cynthia runs small groups for reading and math and also pushes in to classrooms to support where needed. If your student comes home saying they worked with her today, you can now put a face to her name 😃

ALL STUDENTS: FUNDATIONS AT HOME TK-GR3
Please see the following LINK HERE. that will bring you to the Fundations classroom to home letters and printable activities. There are a ton of resources here to practice everything from letter formation to labeling syllable types and MORE. All you need to know is which level your student is working on, and the unit their teacher has reached.
LEXIA AND IREADY
Don't forget that ALL STUDENTS can log in via CLEVER to access LEXIA to practice their reading skills and IREADY to practice their math skills. We recommend that students work on each app for 20 minutes if they can each day :)
