Jane Addams Middle School
Week of June 1, 2021
Dear Families,
We are starting our final month of school with a recognition and affirmation of LGBTQ+ Pride Month. This week in advisory students learned of past and present struggles in the face of discrimination, the victories won, what it means to be an ally and the importance of taking time to educate ourselves and to take action, no matter how large or small. A special thanks to our Student GSA for for the development of today''s lesson as well as the organizing of next week's special guest speaker, Chris Mosier.
We are committed to further developing safe and affirming spaces for our young people, and while June is officially Pride month, we work every day to ensure that our LGBTQ+ students, educators and families can be their full selves at Jane Addams.
Jane Addams/Nathan COVID Vaccine Clinics (Nathan Hale gym)
We are pleased to partner with Seattle Fire Department and Nathan Hale High School for another Pfizer vaccine clinic for students. Students and families may get either the 1st or the 2nd dose on the following days.
Monday, June 7 1:30-5:30
Thursday, June 10 9:00-12:30
We will again take Jane Addams students in Cohort A (Monday) and Cohort B (Thursday) to the clinic with parent permission. Please register here only if you want Jane Addams staff to take your student during school hours. Cohort C students and students with their family members may go at any time during the clinic hours.

Last Week of School
Yes, our schedule will be changing the last week of school in order to provide an extra 6.7 hours for students in Cohorts A and B. See below for the Jane Addams schedule. All students in Cohorts A and B have the option to attend school all five days during the last week of school. We have tried our best to keep a few days consistent. We realize that this change of schedule will impact many families. Students will not be penalized for missing school due to transportation challenges. Student computers will be collected during the final days of school. Look for details next week.
Attention Current 6th and 7th Grade Families
Starting in the 2021-2022 school year, Jane Addams will be adding Math 7/8 Compacted to our math offerings. This course will accelerate students one year, so they can have the opportunity to take Algebra I in 8th grade and earn 1.0 high school credit. We are also offering an opportunity for current 7th grade students to take both Math 8 and Algebra next year. Look for more information from your child's math teacher and join us on Wednesday, June 9 for more information.
Next Wednesday, June 9
We have two important events happening in advisory! From 9-10:30 our 8th grade students present their "Be the Change" projects in 6th and 7th grade advisories. This is an annual event and we are looking forward to going "remote" to show off the hard work.
From 11:30-12:30 we will host our Pride Guest Speaker, Chris Moiser. Both events will be accessed through advisory. There will be no small groups next Wednesday.
8th Grade Good Bye, Thursday June 17, 6pm-7pm
Students can walk, ride, roll or families can drive through one final traffic loop as they say goodbye to Jane Addams and hello to high school. More details to come, but we look forward to this final celebration.
Take care,
Paula
