Animals in Trouble?
Every year 56 billion animals are killed for food, not including fish or other sea animals. Beef cows live to be around 25 years of age and they are killed the year they are born for meat. Dairy cows are slaughterd around 5 years of age when they stop producing milk they are considered 'spent'. When the hens start to lay fewer eggs they are also slaughterd. Since the male chickens dont lay eggs they are not apart of the meat industry they are now useless to the farmers so they are suffocated by being gassed or minced alive when they are born.
Stop Torturing Animals
Over 9 billion cattle, chicken, pigs, turkeys, goats, ducks, sheep and geese are raised and then killed for food. Farmers in the US raise about 36 million beef cattle and fatten 2/3 of the 36 million by using hormones. Today there are around 6 different anabotic steriods that are being injected to these poor animals. For example, female pigs are forcibly impregnated and then once they give birth the babies are seperated. When pigs cant give birth anymore there sent to the slaughterhouse. Another example of horrible steriod use is that chickens, turkeys and ducks often can't hold themselevs up due to their tiny legs. Farmers make them become fat which can lead to heartattacks. Then they are crammed into a shed and are sent to the slaughterhouse.
Animal Testing at its Worst
Animal testing has been going on since 500 BC. Chimpanzees share 99% of the same DNA with humans and mice share 98% they are both considered genetically simaler and are most often used for testing. Although, they aren't the only animals used for testing. In 2010 Minnesota used over 2,703 cats for testing which was more than any other state, New Jersey used 6,077 dogs. In fact every year 26 million animals are used for testing. In 1997 researchers named Charles and Joseph grew a ear on the back of a mouse by using cow cartalige cells. They did this to explore fabricating on the human body and plastic surgery.
Should We Worry About What We Eat?
Organic means they way farmers grow and process products like fruits, vegtables, grains, dairy and meats. If the farmers make the animals take extra hormones that can cause cancer in both men and woman. If a product has the USDA ORGANIC label on it that means that it has to be completly 95% organic. In order for meats to be organic they need to be raised on organic land, fed organic food, must have access to the outdoors and most importantly NO added groth hormones or antibotics!
