SFCS celebrates 26 Years of Growing Together in Faith & Knowledge
Dear SFCS Parents & Friends,
I hope everyone fared well through the storms on Thursday and Friday. While our week on campus was cut short due to Hurricane Nicole, the students did not stop learning. The SFCS faculty pulled together lessons for virtual learning and the students didn't skip a beat with continuing to complete schoolwork at home during the two days of school closure. Thank you to all who sent in photos of their student in virtual learning mode. (Please see feature below)
On Wednesday, November 9, the second-grade class, under the direction of Mrs. Gaherty and her assistant, Mrs. Shoeppe, participated in the annual Saints presentation during School Mass. The students performed like champs, even unexpectedly, when Father Max called the students to the stage during the Homily. They had not rehearsed this part of the Mass but responded so well! All the second grade "Saints" are invited to come to the School Family Mass on November 20 in their Saint costume. The Mass will begin at the 9:00 a.m. We hope to see all the second-grade students and their families there!
We trust this week with the Lord and ask that you join us in continued prayer for our school, students, faculty and staff.
Yours in Christ,
Andrea Smith, M.Ed., LPC, NCC
Principal
Knights of Columbus
A special thank you to the Knights of Columbus for their generous gift of curtains for the back of our stage! In spite of inclement weather, the curtains were hung on Thursday. They will make a wonderful backdrop for the SFCS Advent program in December! We are so grateful for the support of the KOC!
Responsibility
Responsibility: Be accountable for one's personal actions at home, at school, and in relationships.
Our Prayer :
Dear Jesus,
Please help me to be faithful in all the responsibilities you have entrusted to me this day.
Amen

St. Francis Catholic School Facebook Page
Our official Facebook page is "St. Francis Catholic School". In an effort to consolidate communication, and have one central Facebook page for SFCS families to find announcements and learn about upcoming school events, the "St. Francis Families (St. Francis Catholic School, Hilton Head Island)" Facebook page is now inactive. As a reminder, the use of St. Francis Catholic School, or St. Francis by the Sea names, logos, etc., must be approved before associating any group with either name or SFCS. We appreciate your cooperation and partnership with this important policy and ask you to contact Mrs. Smith for school related requests, and the SFBTS Parish office for church related requests. Mrs. Lesley Brewster - 5th Grade Teacher
Mrs. Brewster is a lifelong recipient of a Catholic education, attending St. Raymond in her hometown of Mount Prospect, Illinois. Lesley took part in musical theater at St. Viator High School and is a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee where she received her Elementary Education degree. Lesley has been a Catholic elementary school teacher for fifteen years, joining the St. Francis family in 2020.
An overarching theme in Mrs. Brewster’s classroom is the development of student self-confidence while embracing their Catholic Identify.
Outside of the classroom, you can find Lesley in the gym, at the pickle ball court, or perusing the latest fashion trends. Lesley enjoys attending concerts with family and friends and would absolutely travel for a Def Leppard show.
Lesley has been married for almost thirty years to her husband Dan, and they have two adult children. Madison is a third-year dental student at UIC Chicago. Jack is a recent graduate from the University of Alabama and is a civil engineer. Lesley & Dan have vacationed on the island for thirty years and feel blessed to call the low country their forever home.
1st Grade - Elections and Veterans' Day!
The first graders learned about elections and the voting process. The students voted for their favorite Dr. Seuss character. Three characters were on the ballot, The Cat in the Hat, Horton, and the Lorax. The Cat in the Hat won as favorite by one vote!
First graders also learned about veterans. They learned about the branches of the Armed Forces and made paper bag puppets representing the military branches.
2nd Grade - Saints Presentation
Mrs. Gaherty's second grade did a fabulous job with SFCS annual Saints presentation during School Mass this past Wednesday! We are grateful for Mrs. Gaherty and Mrs. Shoeppe coaching each student with their part. Thank you to the second grade parents and grandparents who helped their student(s) with the perfect costume fitting for the Saint they represented.
5th Grade - Hydroponics
Our 5th Graders accomplished a science project centering around the Agricultural Practice of Hydroponics. Hydroponics is the science of growing plants without soil. The advantages are preservation of soil erosion, eliminating pesticides, and even growing plants in outer space. Imagine the possibilities! Great job 5th Grade!
7th Grade - Science - Cell Theory
A couple of weeks ago, Seventh Grade Life Science wrapped up a study of Cell Theory and Cell Structure by sculpting plant and animal cells. Students needed to sculpt the cell with the proper structure and organelles. In addition, they needed to know the differences between Prokaryote and Eukaryotic cells as well as the functions of the various organelles. A high level of comprehension of technical terms was needed for the successful completion of this project. Way to go students!
Hurricane Nicole Doesn't Stop SFCS!
Students continue to learn in spite of Mother Nature's warning of Hurricane Nicole coming to our coastal area.
VISUAL ARTS - 4th Grade - Bas Relief
The 4th grade is working with clay on bas relief projects. Stay tuned for the finished product!
Bake Club - Pizzas!
